Hi Lizzy,

I am doing great! I saw Dr. Bhoyrul yesterday. I was down 14 pounds since my surgery date and he was very pleased with my progress. I am down a total of 31 pounds from my high weight. I feel great. I have a ton of energy.

Dr. Bhoyrul advanced me from full liquids to soft foods yesterday, so I had a 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes. they were the best tasting thing I've eaten in WEEKS! However, I did get nauseated afterwards, so I'm not eating them again for like a week. I did try one of those yogurt whips this morning for Breakfast and it went down easy with no nausea. I'm just so glad I don't have 2 more weeks of liquids only like I thought!!!!

I'm sending you a PM.

Hey Lizzy..

I had my surgery by Doc Mueller on Feb 5th! He's awesome and I'm so happy with my results. Please feel free to ask me any questions. I can't say enough good things about Doc Mueller, his team, and Sharp Hospital. Congrats on your decision...you won't regret it!!

Marathinner,

I have to tell you that I have been reading your posts and you are truely an insperation to me!!! Reading how well you did kind of spurned me on to make my decision!!

I also have a business aquantance that went to Mueller, but she didn't like his personality much, thought he was a good surgeon but that he was a bit full of himself. Thats fine with me, I like him alot.

When you had your band put in, was it outpatient? How long did he keep you there?

Awww...that's so sweet of you to say:redface:. I'm glad my positive experience can help you get motivated for YOUR positive experience. As for Dr. Mueller's personality...I think he's hilarious! He talks REALLY fast, so you have to make him slow down when he's explaining stuff, but he always spends as much time as needed to answer all your questions. The bottom line is he's a talented surgeon who has changed my life for the better!! I think once you get to know him better you will really like him!! As far as my procedure, yes..I was outpatient. My surgery was at 9:45am. I was in recovery for an hour, then they sent me up to a private room for another 4-5 hours. I was home by 6pm. Again, feel free to ask me anything and everything either on this thread or PM me.

xo

Thanks Lizzy

I sometimes feel like I am not loosing anything more. I NEED to stay away from the scale for more than a day. I can even tell when I had too much the day before by weighing myself in the morning. I am trying to make healthy choices and I can say I havent been fast food trolling since I have been banded. That in itself is a MIRACLE! Now the excersisng... well I need to get it going, I do have more energy but I am still lazy. What about you?

Well Bunkey, I wouldn't say I am lazy, but I don't do as much as I should. My exercise consists more of cleaning house...I have a beagle so I should take him out everyday, he would love it and it would be good for me too. Finding the time some days is tough. You know I am not worried about the food thing, we eat pretty good around my house, my husband won't eat meat if it has been frozed and that includes fish so everything is fresh. My family is Italian so we eat alot of fresh veggies and fruit, its not all Pasta like people think !!

I know what you mean about the scale, when loosing weight is all you can think about its hard not to weigh yourself every 10 minutes, but its better if you just do it once a week. Way to go on your loss I can't wait!!

I am so excited I could just explode!! I had my preop stuff done today, the EKG, chest xray and bloodwork and some how managed to get an appointment for the psych exam for tomorrow!! I usually have the worst luck, but for whatever reason the universe is on my side for once and I seem to be moving through the process fairly easily....I only hope that the rest goes as well. I hope that all of you have or have had an equally good experience.

Itll be over before ya know it Lizzy. Then you can get to the tender healing stage. I was very protective of my scars. They had the steri strips on top of the incisions and I didnt want to take them off. So maybe childish feeling that if I pulled at them the insision may open up!). I waited until they fell off. Then the maddening transion stages of eating as requested by your doctor. ( I was in a trance the whole time I think) Then youll come out of that braver and ready for your new life. I am so happy for you and your desion to be banded. You know, at the end of the day your band will be your reminder of whats to come.

I'm with the UCSD program. Dr. Horgan did the surgery, and I'm extremely satisfied. I appreciate the access to several other qualified doctors, in addition to the very busy Dr Horgan. I appreciate the always-quick-to-reply nutritionist Jill and advocate-bandster, Natalie, along with the nurse and psychologist. We have a monthly support group, which a large number of bandsters at various stages attend. I feel fully supported.

Since surgery, I have run across three women who had serious problems and had to remove their bands, which were implanted in Mexico.

In short, I do not regret my surgery decision or doctor selection.

Wow, you have lost so much weight in such a short time!! Doesn't that feel awesome?!

I know what you mean about Mexico, not only are the rules different there, most US doctors won't do adjustments or anything if you have had a band done there. With so many insurance compaines approving the wls and doctors willing to make payment plans it just seems too risky to me to go to Mexico and have surgery. I mean, think about it this way, would you go there and eat a hotdog from a cart in TJ? Probably not, then why have surgery there?:tt2:

There are many doctors worldwide that a great and safe choices. I wanted someone who had ALOT of experience and teaches other doctors world wide how to do it. So I went with Dr. Rumbout in Monterrey Mexico. I get my fill is T.J at Dr. Ortiz office. Dr. Ortiz was featured on Oprah and MY doctor TAUGHT Dr. Ortiz. It was The cleanest hospital I ever have been in and I have seen a few in my life that have been questionable in the least. I did not htave my surgery anywear near a HOT DOG cart. This was a conscious decsion to go to Monterrey. There are also fill centers I can go to here in San Diego.< /p>

Bunkey I am sorry if I offended you. I was joking about the hotdog cart. I am sure that the facilities that you went to were great, I know alot of people who have had surgery in Mexico. However, Mexico is a third world country and there are alot of doctors here that won't adjust bands that were obtained in Mexico. Having said that, I realize that there are some who will and do. Again I did not mean to offend you, so I am sorry.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
