if he knows all of this history then why is he doing this to you. I waiting for 3 years just so that my insurance would change. you have to beg with him. Tell him that you see this as the way to lose weight and your last chance. The entire world is doing it. It's not like you're doing the gastric bypass. Talk to him again.

I'm sorry but it upsets me that someone else thinks they can make decisions for us. We know what we want and that's that!!!!

Good luck to you! I really hope it works out. That's such a shame that your doctor did that to you. And we all know what's involved and the whole process to have this surgery. I wish you the best!

My surgeon required clearance from an endocronologist not my GP. It's too bad your GP can't get on Board. Keep fighting for it!! Good luck!!

there are a million pcp doctors out there.

if you have tried to lose weight with this pcp does the surgeon have a copy of your medical records doesnt that show you have tried

bcbs required that i had proof of six months of tried dieting with a medical prof. and that my pcp gave referral but i knew that before i ever went to my surgeon .... good luck :blushing:

Finally, after two days of waiting and no call back, I decided to call the lap bad doc back, and was told that he would not do the surgery with out my GP being on board even though my insurance does not require it. Now I have to find another GP that will give the ok. Just another hurdle to over come. Not the end of the world but what a pain.

I know that it sucks but it might actually be better this way. My GP was against WLS too so I decided to get one of the doctors at the hospital here that knows my Surgeon for Lapband to be my doctor and since then things have been fine. Just working on my 6 month diet. After that full-throttle into bandland!

So sorry to hear that! The suggestion of the other responder is a good idea, or you could see if your surgeon has a list of GP he knows are WLS friendly. Keep us posted!

On my Quest to find another GP. On top of denying me, he prescibed Zoloft, and when I looked up the side effects, number one was weight gain!! Now I don't really feel depressed accept being overweight. So how is putting on more weight going to make me feel? I threw my prescription in the trash! Just hope I don't have to do another 6 months with another doc!

Do you really want to stay with a PCP who does not seem to understand your weight problems and wants to attribute them all to a psychological problem? What led your doctor to believe you are depressed? If you stay with the doctor and do end up with WLS,are you going to really have a good relationship after doing something he obviously disapproves of? I would be looking for another doctor in a heartbeat, UNLESS he gave you really good reasons to believe depression is your problem. Otherwise, he sounds like someone who just doesn't understand obesity.

I took my 95 year old mother to a geriatric specialist because her blood pressure kept dropping to about 70/30 and she would pass out. He decided it was because she was depressed. WTF???? Maybe she's

depressed because she keeps passing out and falling, so she can't trust herself to get up out of a chair!

I went to my daughter's GP when I decided the band was for me, because he had seen what wonders banding had done for her. He did an in-depth interview to document previous weight problems, other health problems related to obesity, recommended me to a psychologist for the psych exam, and I was on my way. Two months later I was banded, and it could have been sooner if my schedule permitted it.

I called and left my PCP and aske for him to call me back. I'm going to insist on approval, or go to another doc. I'm going to change docs no matter what now, but in the intrest of time, I hope he will do the approval, and get me on my way. We shall see...

When you get a new GP, besure all of your records are transferred. I believe that you can even go to old doctor's office to request them and hand carry them. That way, you can look them over to be sure that all weight loss attempts are included.

Best of luck.

Good advice. Remember, your doctor is your employee, not your daddy! But in the best circumstances, he is your partner in getting you healthy.

My PCP wasn't all that thrilled with WLS but I wrote him a letter explaining my attempts at weight loss and my families history of heart diease and high blood pressure. With that he gave me my referal. I was surprised.

I would get a copy of your medical records because they always show weight and blood pressure on them. That to would document long term obesity. Which mine did. Who ordered the sleep test? If you went to another doctor he might write that WLS could be benefical. That's what I did with the cardiologist I saw. All these things help your cause..

It was actually my ENT that ordered the sleep study. Still waiting for the call back. I'm just about ready to walk in to the docs office and say, can I have my records please, and be done with it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
