Can anyone tell me what the typical symptoms of a slip are?

Went to my Doc 3 weeks ago for a fill. The band is supposed to be at an angle - like the backspace on the keyboard. Mine is now a 'dash'. He said it could live with it. But I go to them on Thursday for my post fill appointment.

I'm nervous - because I don't know what I would be feeling if I did have a slip???

I need the same answer - PLEASE! I have some tightness in my esophagus in my chest when I breath deep; I have reflux at night but probably due to drinking wine; I have thrown up too much lately because the food hurts sitting down in there. Someone please tell me. I'm scared. I had an endoscopy a couple of weeks ago and all was fine!

No fills under fluoro.

Yes fills are removed before refilling.

No leakage.

Am a Water aerobic teacher, teach in the water, 4x a week and do strength training with equipment 2X a week.

No restriction. Why measure food?

What happened to me: I had chronic heartburn for about 6 months. I really didn't think too much of it at first but then I ended up in the ER with chest pain. No heart attack; stress test and echo normal. Upper endoscopy showed the band was not positioned in the right place and some erosion. Barium swallow confirmed slipped band. I think the radiologist said it was the worst slip he has seen! Went to surgeon for unfill. He said that the slip was so bad, an unfill wouldn't resolve it. I am scheduled for removal and replacement on 7-14. I have gained all but 10 lbs back of the 56 lbs I lost. I am starting all over again :Angel_anim:

I had the same symptoms( heartburn, throwing up) I had my band redone. I am fine now, but it was worse than the initial op. I have lost all my weight, but a lot of it was from throwing up for almost a year.

On July 2nd, I had a complete unfill -- I was having extreme heartburn and couldn't eat a lot of anything, but I was not vomiting often (I did ONCE, but it wasn't an extreme episode). My doctor does all the fills/unfills under flouroscopy, so when they originally were going to take a small amount out and looked at the picture, he said I was on the verge of a slip (I think the kind where part of the pouch wants to go over the band), so he was going to completely unfill to let it heal. liquids & mushies for 2 weeks.

What does it feel like on that type of slip -- part of the stomach/pouch wanting to hang over the band? How does one know if that's actually happened -- doesn't liquid/mushies or basically anything that you consume get stuck in that "overhang"?

I'm so paranoid about it now, that I'm afraid it has slipped. Last night I had so much gas & bloating that it made me feel nauseas a little. I had ONE bite of a small piece of very tender brisket that I chewed into a mush and I was real tired after having to get up very early, so I'd like to attribute that feeling to being worn out and the small amount of grease from the meat causing the gas. That was all I ate though -- everything else has been my full liquids.

But I'm noticing today that I don't have much of an appetite -- shouldn't I have MORE of an appetite with a complete unfill?

Now I'm worried about it and I've tried to search the forum for similar circumstances, but most of what I've found has pertained to a "regular slip" (if there is such a thing).

Anyone have any experience with this kind of slip or can anyone shed any light on this for me?

Thanks for any help!

I have been suffing and doing my homework for months trying to decide what I needed to do. Decided to remove band and have sleeve. :ohmy:Two weeks before surgery date I had another slip. This one was bad. I couldn't keep anything down, not even Water. I got very dehydrated and there wasn't a local doctor that would remove my band. ER dr said I needed to get on a plane to Mexico. By the time I was hydrated and checked myself out of local hospital it was the 4th. Worked all weekend getting a flight and make arrangements to get to Mexico. I was extremely dehydrated again by the time I arrive. But finally band has been removed by:thumbup: Dr. Aceves. (He did not place my band) many many regrets:sad: I didn't go to him first. My band was never done correctly. I had trouble the entire 2 years I had it.

If you have a slip, you should have something done because it can get worse. Be sure your fill doctor stays on top of situation. Also so know as much as possible about the doctor you use to place band.

Where i am at now:

I am unfilled, he drew off 1cc of saline and left 1.5cc in.

I am on liquids again.

3 weeks, we have another appointment to see how I am doing.

(any food sticking, bringing it back up etc.)

We may proceed to an upper GI to see how bad the slippage is.

I have regained 15 lbs. of the 30 I lost before the surgery. The band was placed Oct. 15, 07.

I would start checking on having band removed and sleeve done before it gets so bad you can't have it done in one surgery like me. I now have to heal for 3 - 4 months before I can have sleeve. My friend had revision from band to sleeve in one surgery and is doing great. She can't believe how much better it it to have the sleeve. I also gained 10 pounds while unfilled, most everyone gains weight back when they have band removed. If you start throwing up you slip will get worse.

I too have had a slip. I had severe reflux, could only eat 1 oz of solid or ground meat on one time. Reflux was the worst with Water. I was too tight without knowing what "tight" is not supposed to feel like.

I have heard an unfill will help with a possible slip, but most of the things I've read that if you have a slip, surgery is really the only answer. There is no need to remove the band.

My band was re-positioned and my original band was used, there was no need to take the band out.

This may be a stupid question but when it has to be repositioned is that done in the doctor's office or do you have to go to hospital and go under anesthesia like the original surgery.

If you have to have any surgery it is bad, the more you move the band around the more scar tissure you will likely have. So it's just my belief now (after my bad experience) that removing band is the best thing to do. I am so releaved to have that foreign object out of my body. Everyone will not have problems that I have had. But I wouldn't recommend the band to anyone after what I went through.

Yup, I had my slip repaired in the hospital and stayed overnight. It was far easier than the first lap-band surgery. I took no pain meds, I was just sore.

I didn't have to go on a liquid diet before either.

When I got unfilled completely back in January, I could eat good nutritious foods for like two weeks, then I had pain and restriction with most foods. That is what told me also, that I had a major problem such as a slip. To have restriction when I was unfilled, when I had no restriction when I was right after surgery unfilled, alerted me. Convincing the surgeon to operate was another matter though. He found the slip when he operated on me.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
