I have a BMI of 40 right now, but BCBS put me on a 6 month diet and I am losing very slowly, will they still cover me if I go lower on my BMI?

Thanks!

That was the question I asked my surgeon at my initial appointment because I'm 10 - 12 pounds away from going below a 40. He said that they go by what your initial weight is at your first appointment. I still don't trust that though.

I have BCBS as well and they went by my first initial weigh in only. I lost about 20 lbs before surgery and that put me "under" their weight requirements but they never knew my weight after the first weight was submitted to them. I think you're safe if you already have approval before you start the process of pre-surgical diets! You should be fine! Best wishes!

I have bc/bs illinois and it clearly states (I have read it with my own eyes) that they use the BMI from the 1st date of your 1st appt! Yeahh! Tamara
