April 2008 Exercise Challenge

Recommended Posts

Yesterday was a complete waste for me as far as getting in a workout. Today I will be doing SOMETHING, even if it's just on my treadmill. I'll check in later with an update.

BG, I'm jealous, I went out to check the rideability status of my bike, and it had 2 flat tires, and the handlebars are loose for some reason, and I can't get it to tighten up, and DH (d is not meaning dear today) is too effing busy turkey hunting yesterday and golfing today to fix it for me.

I'm back...and exhausted! It was a wet weekend, but the kiddies & I had a great time in NC with my folks. (I can't testify to if my parents would say the same!) I've got a ton of stuff to do today in recovery from our trip, but I wanted to check in with y'all! Hope everyone's week is off to a good start!

UG. I went to a funeral today, and it hit me pretty hard. Just a friend of the family, but still. I guess I was reminded of my dad's funeral almost a year ago, and it was still pretty fresh. The military honors always get to me.

Anyway, I have a few errands to run, and then I'll be doing my hour workout a bit later tonight.

How's everyone else doing? BG, it's cold and rainy here again, so I can't imagine you being outside riding your bike. But then again....maybe it's not as crappy there as it is here.

How's it coming, Skinny? Thanks for spurring me on y'all... I really needed this camaraderie. I appreciate it more than y'all realize!

Going out of town for a few days -- plenty of walking in store, so I ought to hit my 3rd workout req with no problems!

It was hard to wkout out of town on business. I did more walking as the building I was in was huge compared to where I work. Also walked DT Minneapolis.

Today I worked out for an hour and felt good. Did the eliptical and weights. Eliptical kicks my butt. Legs feel like Jello. I'm exhausted. For too many nights been to bed past midnight.

my weekend was fabulous. My husband and I had a wedding to attend so we went shopping for a suit for him. It was fun. I also bought a new black dress. It was a halter dress that came down low in the cleavage. i felt sexy. haven't been there in a while. Hey personal question. Have any of you ever had a brazilian wax?

TG - i wish i lots some in my chest circumference. I'm still in a 40 bra. and if i eat too much i'm miserable in bra area.

TG actually it was 72 and sunny yesterday lol. Remember girl I am in Detroit so we have some serious miles between us. That being said I had to work 12.5 hours yesterday so i did not get to enjoy that much of it. I did get a short ride in but that is about all. I want to get out today, but today is the day the rain is supposed to hit, so we will have to play it by ear. I need to get some fertalizer down on my lawn before it rains also, and that is a workout in and of itself.

SJ I have not had a brazillian but I want to get one badly. I just can't justify the cost right now. Glad to hear your weekend went well. I have to get a new dress before my birthday and I am way excited about it. I am going to need some sort of body sucker inner though.

Zannie, I am glad you had a good time!

I'm an awful slacker. I ended up walking around in Walmart for an hour (which doesn't count) last night, and I never did get a workout in last night. I'll be making up for it today, though. I'll get in 45 minutes of walking, and then we play league volleyball tonight, so there's another hour and a half that I can count. So I'm looking at 2 hours and 15 minutes for today! WOO!

I got in 30 minutes (not the 45 I hoped for) and an hour and a half of competitive volleyball. SO, 2 hours total for me today! WOOT!

Great Job TG.

I screwed up today. Son wanted sonic so decided to get a java chiller and onion rings. just looked up the nutritional value. 1040 cal total for the two. Ugh!! And no exercise for me today either.... I will get a workout in tomorrow. Son has to work so I will have to leave early at work to get him there. Straight to gym from there

BG,

I bought one of those body sucker in thingy too. Kept stuff from gigglying

SJ- normal people eat sonic from time to time (except those of us who do not have one in a 400 mile radius, but I digress), so don't be too hard on yourself. Preband I am sure you would have made a poorer choice and eaten much, much more. Celebrate the small successes.

TG that is awesome. I stink at volleyball but it is way fun to play. I can't wait to play tennis again this summer. I have not experienced it at a thinner weight yet.

Zannie where are ya girl?

I LOVE playing volleyball. My team probably gets frustrated with me because I will not dive on the floor to go after a ball, because my kneecaps would probably shatter, pads or no, and I can't set the ball to save my live, but I screw up less than some do, so I don't feel so bad. It's a mixed league we play on, because the women's leagues are VICIOUS! Them girls are out for BLOOD, I swear! So we do play just for fun, but last night we played against a team that has a grudge against us because we beat them every time we play them despite their best efforts at cheating.

At Sonics (and 7-11) you can get diet versions of their slushy. Ours only has the cherry flavor, but that may not be the only diet Syrup they make. It is pretty tasty & makes me feel "normal" while there rather than like a freak who can't eat the friggin' bun & slimes on the tots & really shouldn't touch the fries since they DO go down! :crying: My downfall is The Milkshake (I  choc.malts ) so it helps A LOT to know what alternative I'm going to choose before arriving at any place that DOES sell shakes!Anyhow that is my Sonics tip!

I spend most TUES nights over at my parents' (they babysit the kids for me to attend both a "Boundaries" group & a "Celebrate Recovery" meeting that is supposed to help in dealing with DH's adultery). So that explains my absence yesterday -- sorry if y'all felt abandoned. :wink2: But but but!!! Because I was there this morning, my mom & i finally got to work on a task we've been putting off since January: making a work-out room! Her guest bedroom now contains one Ab Lounge II, one Cardio Glide, two exercise balls, two yoga mats, a shit-load of exercise videos...as well as an old big-screen TV, 2 beds with nightstands, and a dresser. We still need to move her treadmill upstairs but that'll require more MANpower than we have between us! And the Nordic-Track remains in the attic for now -- we'll have to see if it fits once the treadmill is in place. It looks like a bloomin' Curves studio now! Yea US! The next step is to establish a set schedule for our exercising together. PLUS, I not only helped move exercise equipment & rearrange furniture today (a workout in itself, right?), I did my first-ever Ab Lounge routine (um, apparently I really need to strengthen the core )!

So I'm on track for the week & my monthly goal -- which feels great since I'm pretty sure I'd've been playing catch-up by now in previous challenges!

Awesome Zannie!!!! And good job TG.

I got in my hour of spin class earlier. I keep thinking about the 50 mile ride I am attempting on Saturday and trying to get everything in I can before that to prepare for it. Because of the weather I only got out cycling like 2 weeks ago and it just does not feel like enough.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
