hey musicmaker! I am awaiting approval for my surgery with Dr. Duncan. I had my nutrition eval with Susan friday. I wanted to know how your experience was with them. How long did u have to wait for approval? And do u know which band u have? How did u feel after surgery? and how was the aftercare u received from the office? I know I am asking a lot of questions, but I am so happy to find someone who has had recent experience with them. I love their office and I am hoping that I will continue to! Congrats on your surgery and I wish u continued success!

I went to Atlanta Bariatrics with Dr. Johnson. He is really nice, takes alot of time with you. Actually asked me if I had questions several times before he left during my 1st consult. He is really cute too!!

Hi Massa, I was self pay so I did not have to wait for approval. But, once I had all of my clearances my surgery was scheduled. It was only a couple of weeks before my date but only because of the Christmas holidays. I had my surgery 1-11-08. Susan has been really good and informative. She actually did my fill last time. (Dr. Rashid was present though). The office has been really good and friendly. I have nothing negative to say about my whole experience with them. Good luck in getting your approval.

Hi Don! Like CPSimonton... I went to Atlanta Bariatrics and Dr Johnson was my surgeon. I am not sure of the self pay cost, my insurance covered my procedure. However, if you talk to Susie in the office, she can give you the information you are looking for! www.atlantabariatrics.com

My aunt and I both went to Atlanta Bariatrics. Dr. Hart performed her bypass 6 years ago and Dr Johnson did my lapband on 4/21. Both of us are very happy. I live in Douglasville and happily drove the 52 miles to his office for every appt...he's that good!

I have to agree about Atlanta Bariatrics, Dr. Hart and Dr. Johnson are amazing. The deciding factor for me was the on staff nutritionist, the monthly support groups (at Emory Johns Creek Hospital), the free exercise classes (also at the hospital), and the encouragement to join an on line group ( like this one).

I was also impressed by how much they make you do before you have your surgery. They give you a check list of doctor appointments, medical tests, psych evaluations, lectures you must attend, and a meeting with the nutritionist before you are scheduled. I felt them to be very thorough about the positives and negatives of the surgery. They repeatedly stress again and again that if you have ANY, and I mean any questions to contact them. You are given the nurses email along with phone numbers.

I had my surgery August 20, 2007 by Dr. Johnson. Started at 307, now at 227 and going.

Contact them, even if just for a consultation. They are big on support!

I am a teacher and have Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance HMO. I have been told all state plans have banned any type of weight loss procedures even if you meet the criteria. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Why did you not like Dr. McKernan?? I have a consult planned with him to start doing my fills. Should I be concerned??

I do not recommend my physician...Dr. J. Barry McKernen in woodstock ga. Just do your research. Good luck. You won't regret the decision.

Why not? I am thinking about going to him for fills...is there a specific reason you don't recommend him??

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
