Any "Last meals?"

Recommended Posts

Are you planning any "last meals" of things you may not be able to eat after banding?

One of my favorite meals is German beef roulades and sticky dumplings. The beef is not the most tender, and from what I've heard may be difficult to eat with the band, and the dumplings probably aren't very band friendly either. So I asked my mom to make this for me.

Also going out with my husband for a good steak dinner at Ruth's Chris.

Many people have "last meals" before their pre-op diet kicks in. Largely they're only last in portion, not in opportunity to eat the foods. I considered one very briefly, early on, but quickly decided it wasn't worth it... it struck me as no different than "start my diet Monday" thinking. I think my last meal before starting the pre-op diet was a turkey BLT or something.

I have to agree with Wheetsin about the "start my diet on Monday" syndrome. But if I decided to I would have my last bowl of Ben & Jerry's "Everything but the....." ice cream! It's my favorite!

Since having the stomach flu last weekend, I have really been trying to follow a modified version (liquids all day & a healthy dinner, usually a salad) of my preop diet so my appetite hasnt really come back full force so I have lost almost 6lbs since last Saturday. However, that being said, I am going to Disney World 3/30-4/1 so that will be my last suppers, & Lord knows DW has some bomb-diggity (as my 8yr old DD would say) food! Let's just hope I dont gain back whatever I lose between now & then! My true liquid only 10 day preop starts 4/1 so I "intend" to be careful! So no traditional trip to the Confectionary for my fav fudge & choc covered pretzels. :*(

I am going to have a nice steak before I go to the liquid diet. I will be careful to keep it low carb so I keep working towards my wl goals.

I had more last meals than I can count. I tried to have everything that I love one last time. I gained a few pounds, but I don't think it hurt anything.

Much to my surprise, I don't pine after the foods I thought I'd never eat again. I used to eat pizza religiously every Friday night. I've been forced to have it twice since surgery and it just didn't do a thing for me.

Suzanne - I hope you are right about the pizza. I love pizza, it is my favorite food.

ColoradoChick, I was so addicted to pizza that I actually brought it up in my surgery consult. I asked if I would be able to eat it and he said probably not and I said how about thin crust and he said, trust me, you won't want it.

He was right, but not for the reason he said. I can physically eat pizza, well I could before this last fill, not so sure now. The amazing part was that I didn't even THINK about pizza unless I saw a commercial and even then it was more like, "hey, I don't even crave pizza anymore".

I would have never thought it possible.

Best of luck to you!

I just had garlic and herb chicken con brocolli from olive garden for my "last meal" I also treated myself to desert, but i only ate about 3/4 cup of the Pasta, one of the small thin chicken breasts and all the brocolli and had salad with it. So it wasn't TOOO bad! lol. I haven't had desert yet, I am saving it for snack! lol.

Last night I went to dinner at Carrabas. I ordered one of my favorites - the Polo Rosa Maria. You get tow stuffed chicken breasts and two scoops of garlic mashed potatoes. I have been practicing eating slower and chewing longer. I am ordinarily a lightening fast eater. I also did not have a drink with the meal. I was surprised that I was the last to finish my meal! My husband eats very slowly so I watched him and only put food in my mouth when he did. I actually had to eat every other time he did as I concentrated on chewing. I also found that after eating half of what I normally did that I was absolutely full!! I usually clean the plate! I did not drink for 90 plus minutes after the meal as I will have to do post surgery and found that I kept that full feeling much much longer by doing so. This experiment really gives me hope that I can do this! I have been worried that I will fail as I have done to every other attempt! So my advise if you are planning on "last meals" is to try to eat as if you already have the band!

I think this is kind of funny... I've had about four friends that know about my surgery offer to take me out for a "last meal!" They are all very supportive, but I think they think it will be fun to take me out for one last feast. I am actually feeling motivated to eat less - to practice restraint for when I have my band, so that's ironic.

That German food sounds yummy!!!

I've changed my mind I'm not going to have a final meal. I went back on my low carb diet and that is what I am going to continue to do.

I just came from my pre-op appointment and my surgeon said it's perfectly normal and OK to have as many "last meals" as you want prior to the pre-op diet. So, I'm having some pizza tonight, and I'm going to enjoy every bite!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
