How many of you had a surgery date before ins. approval?

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering how many surgeons went ahead and scheduled your surgery before even submitting the paperwork to insurance? Just curious, because I am going to ask for this. We are moving to Hawaii in April, and I don't want to lose my chance because it gets pushed back for some reason.

My insurance has a pretty quick turn-around for approvals...about 3 days...so I'm not concerned with that part of it.

Just curious if it's done.

My schedule was as follows:

  • Seminar: Feb 21
  • Psych Exam & Nurse Consult: Feb 25
  • Surgeon Consult: Feb 26
  • Banded: Mar 4

So - it all happened in about a week and a half. The fact that I was self-pay helped to speed it all up. Insurance wouldn’t cover me b/c I’m not morbidly obese, do not have diabetes or other serious health problems, etc.

Okay, sorry to say that I don't have any advise on this subject, but I just wanted to say "Hi" to a fellow Kentuckian. Well, I guess you won't be a Kentuckian for long, Ms. Hawaii! Don't know if you've been there yet, but Hawaii is my favorite place in the whole world. Been there three times and never wanted to leave. Everyone there is so relaxed, not to mention, all the beautiful scenery. I even got married there (in Maui). I hope that you are able to get your approval before your surgery! Good Luck and Aloha!

I have a surgery date of March 24th, but have not gotten the final approval from insurence yet. I called on Friday and ins co said they have not recieved anything from my surg's office (I think they messed up). I have to call again on Tuesday to be sure everything is in order. The bad thing is that I start my pre-op liquid diet on Monday.

Good luck to you!

Christine

I met my surgeon on Dec. 18 and they scheduled my surgery at the same time. My surgery was scheduled for Jan. 31. They sent the paperwork into the insurance co the next day and I think it took it was approved mid January. Prior to this I had collected 6 months of doctor supervised weight loss attempts and had a physical, blood work, letter of recomendation, etc already prepared.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
