Dr. Aaron Hoffman - Lap Band done in Buffalo, NY (Dr. Hoffman)

Recommended Posts

I am so confused about the band fills. Gee I hadn't thought about being filled to the fullest. I think this is a good subject to bring up at the support group meeting. Very few people in Buffalo have been banded long enough for long term studies. I guess we have to rely on what our doctors advise.

Yes, unfortunatly, Judy is correct, we can only be filled up to 10cc so my thought was what if i get to 10cc and it wears off like the last 3 did. I feel full for about a week, and then its like i never had a fill.

Also, Yes I never thought it would happen to me, but I do get cold now and I NEVER get or got cold ever. so there is hope for all us woman going through menapause and hot flashes...

Judy, I can't believe you eat all that and lose wt. I am still doing Phase 1 and have not dropped a lb in a month..Hats off to you girl..

I also excersize, so I guess it is the pateau everyone talks about... It sucks.

Band, I do not eat it all at one sitting of course, LOL!! But I have had some of all of that throughout the last two months. The difference is, on any of those things I can only eat about 1/3 of what I used to eat. I just wanted to let the worries know that there is life after lapband. This is so much easier then say Nutrisystem, when you could not eat what others are eating. That was very hard socially. For me at least, no one would really know from what I eat that I have this.

I do have some bad habits that I will have to give up, beer-Dr. H. is not in favor of that. I have banana bread with Peanut Butter for Breakfast every day--I think that is too many carbs. I will have to adjust when I plateau and may have to break some other bad habits as well. I think I am due for a fill, as I am eating more at a sitting then I would like. I guess we will see at the weigh in.

The thing that distresses me most is "I THINK OF food EVERY MINUTE OF THE DAY". I hate that.

Sounds like a lot of us will get a boost next week since so many are seeing the doctor. How can he handle all of us in one day????

My guess is that even if you get filled all the way, you will still be smaller than you were without the band. I can not imagine eating the old amounts with the band in.

So I guess half that weight off with the band full is still better then no band and huge.

Maybe we are relying too much on the band. I am thinking of going to weight watchers in the fall, just to learn to eat healthy.

And yes, I agree, Rain is beautiful even now.

Band, maybe you should go to phase 2 or three, maybe your body is slowing it's metabolism because you are eating too little. I have heard this happens.

You can eat carbs after the band. For me I am not eating enough vegetables.

I think Dr. Hoffman will love seeing all of you on one day, ha ha! He's probably used to all of the silliness that comes with us. I think he's acclimating to me, anyway. :cursing:

I'm looking forward to walking on the 11th and support on the 15th!

I've not been feeling well in the morning, almost as if my body's trying to catch up to my brain. This morning I just felt awful--sweaty, clammy, run-down. I don't think I'm getting enough Protein in during the day. Granted, I haven't been writing down things---maybe I should? I'm taking all of the required Vitamins too...what do you guys think? I'm two weeks out now, moving to soft food tomorrow...what the heck?

My thing with the fills...in my estimation, by the time it gets to where I can't get any more fills, I will be able to run my a$$ off and will be totally used to eating healthily, and when I don't the band will still be there stopping my bad habits if they pop up. I won't even care how much saline I've got goin' on! :cool2: :w00t: At least that's what I'm hoping!

Bloom, I also experienced a slow down a few weeks after the surgery. You went back to work early as did I, I think that contributes a little. I also felt like you that I was not getting enough protein, so I try hard to do that first. I have to write down what I eat as I eat without thinking. You sound great.

I will try to go to the support group but I have a flight in the morning, just depends on if I am packed or not. I will probably walk th 11th, not sure if I will try to squeeze one more day at camp or not.

Take care.

you know Judy, I think you may be right, maybe my body needs a jolt of good old fashioned carbs. I think I'm going to mix it up abit and do phase 2. couldnt hurt i'm not losing now anyway..

8_16_1.gif I know your not eating it all in one shot but boy pizza sure does sound good to me. and a bagel with cream cheese.< /p>

36_19_2.gif One more thing if anyone can help, Dr. Hoffman told me He doesn't even require the Vitamins, and so I stopped, and now my hair is falling out, and sometimes like bloom, I feel really dragged out. Could it be a Vitamin deficiency, or not enough carbs for energy? Any clues?

The Hair loss would not be from this surgery, but it could be from something you are not getting in your diet. I take Biotin which is a vitamin for hair loss. You could also go to the Vitamin Shoppe on Walden, they have many hair loss vitamin suggestions.

You do need carbs for energy, so if you are working hard, you might need some good carbs. What are good carbs? I am the wrong person to ask. Whole grain (not whole wheat) bread is one. I think the low glycemic diet book can tell you what are good carbs. Sweet potatoes I think.

My opinion, most Americans do not eat well, take the vitamins. We do not have hair loss or vitamin deficiency from the band as the band does not affect vitamin absorption (the by pass does). That is why Dr. H. does not push the vitamins. The guidelines we get were written for bypass patients and have not been updated for the band.

I just remembered, I think zinc can help with hair loss. Bypass patients do not absorb zinc so that is why their hair falls out. You are not a by-pass, but maybe you are low on Zinc for other reasons.

Biotin and Zinc.

Band, if it keeps raining I will not be going camping and perhaps we can grab a coffee. I will let you know if I will be around.

Does anyone know ?? I just started taking the viactin multiple Vitamins about 2 weeks ago.. All of a sudden I am getting hot flashes ! I pretty much stopped with the hot flashes about a year ago and now all of a sudden I have them back. The vitamins and calcium chews (when I remember) are the only things that I am doing different besides trying desperately not to gain and continue to loose. Has anyone else had this experience ? Maybe I am just nervous about this surgery but I really don't think any anxiety that I am having is that bad.. I guess just normal feelings at this point !

Another thing.. I think I need to go back on the phase I SB.. The phase II is getting out of control.. I guess if I allow myself 1 slice of bread... later I have another..I really luvvvv bread and pasta.. Pasta I have to cook so thats not a problem but bread is too readily available !! If I gain, I am afraid that Posner will cancel my surgery date.

Shar, I don't know about the Vitamins but I take the Viactiv with no problems and believe I would know cause I am off the hormones and the hot flashes are fast and furious. And I am not taking the viatamins or viativ as you should stop them a week before surgery so I just stopped them early. Do you have a surgery date? Have you lost your 5%? Once you are approved I don't believe they will cancel surgery for weight gain but SB Phase 1 is very important for the week before surgery. My final weigh in is Monday and I suspect I have gained a few pounds after my marathon poor eating this week.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
