Recommended Posts

oh yeah!!! I finally got back on. Wouldn't let me on, said i had wrong password which was bull.. this has happened now 3 different times, and had to start a whole new e-mail and everything.

any way, i am truley bummed, in the last 10 weeks, i have gained and lost the same 5 lbs, even though i got a fill a few weeks ago and have been eating less than ever, i still am not losing. How can this be? I am scared for the first time since i was banded that my battle with the bulge will never be over. any input or advice greatly appreciated. vicki

Vicki,

What are you eating? Ive been doing a high Protein low carb type "diet" and Ive lost 10 lbs since Jan 1st. I know it sucks to have the band and still be on a diet per se but the South beach thing does work if you are willing to give up those carbs.

Good luck

Rain

Vicki,

hmm.... I sure dont know the answer, but I do know it sucks! How about excercize? Could that be it?

The people that are under the impression that the band is the easy way out are surely mistaken.

Vicki, That is so ironic - I was going to say funny but it is not funny at all! I was just thinking the exact same thing. If I had not gained I would have lost at least five more pounds. I go down one and up one. It is so discouraging BUT I know my problem is eating between meals so it is fixable. I have heard Rain talk about using SB in the past. She is doing wonderful but on the other hand, what I eat is probably mostly from SB anyway. No one said this was going to be easy. I definitely have restriction! Just my ramblings!

Vicki, what can we do to help. Would you like to meet? How about walking the mall (we walk at 8am but I am willing to do it another time also)? The band is to change our life for the better! We are here for you.

I am still having issues with getting stuck, Pbing, and taking a few bites of food and it fells like am swallowing a golf ball.I'm taking eraser size bites , chewing throughly and waiting. The only safe foods are soft or liquid. I've lost 5lbs in 4 days and i'm worried that i'm not getting proper Protein. What are you bandsters having to eat at lunch at work? I'm afraid to eat anything solid but i can't do this forever! Please help

Buckets, if your worried about the protein, I would be sure to drink about 3 shakes a day... But how long after your 3cc fill did the restriction start ? I think I got my first fill around the same time you did and it will be 3 weeks on tuesday and still not feeling anything or loosing anything ?

I am exercising 3-4 x a week at the Y..

NBflo Girl I had another fill on wed. they put in 1.5ccfor a total of 4.5cc. I had only lost 1lb. during the 3 weeks with the first fill. The 5 lb. loss is nice but if I keep on having problems I am going to go back to the office. I only get a 2 or 3 SMALL bites of food and I get a buildup of mucous. If I eat a half cup of food a day i'm lucky. Any old bandsters know what's going on? Do I need some Fluid taken out or maybe I am highly sensitive. I've never been scared to eat in my life. I'll see how supper goes. I will supplement with Protein Shakes for now.

Buckets, I hope it gets better for you soon. I will be at the clinic friday for another fill. Maybe I will ask for 1cc instead of the usual 1.5 cc they give.

Linda, How are you feeling now after your second fill ?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
