hey everyone does anyone know when the next support meeting is

Hey China and All :

I had an appointment yesterday at 2:30 -- didn't get out until about 4:15. Its ok because I had alot of questions and I hadn't lost almost anything for about a month or more. Anyway, Lori gave me a fill of 3cc. Apparently when you have the Realize Band, they insert the band w/o any saline and if you need a fill, it holds 9cc altogether when you need it. Lets see what happens now. I have to be on liquids and pureed for awhile now just like in the beginning but w/o the new surgery sensitivities.

I spoke to the girl who gave me the next appointment and she said that it is the 21st @ 6pm and there will be one in Feb also. But, the next monthly meetings (from March on ) will be for the Gastric Bypass patients along with the Bandsters together in one meeting. Previously, they met on separate evenings. I really don't know if they are so shortstaffed that they have to do that but I can't see how we would get anything out of those meetings. They all have different problems than we do with their malabsorption and all. I think also their diet is different too as they don't have to watch calories or fat intake and we really do.

Oh well, hope to see you at the meeting, weather permitting.

I gave Nicki my 3 pm appointment, yes, he is over booked. Last time I had a 3 pm I got out at 5 or so. Rain, you and I were there together. I wish I was coming so I could see you all. I am traveling and Nicki needed an appointment.

Daniellebee-rule of thumb is that if you lose 1-2 pounds a week you will not get a fill, they do not want you to lose any faster. I do not know anyone that got a fill on first post-op, although you could be the first. But if your average weight loss (not just the last week) was 1-2 pounds a week, you almost certainly will not get one. Just dont want you to be disappointed.

I will be gone all next week so I will not be at support.

Hi Betsey--did not find my purse yet, but when I do it is yours! See, I remember you! good luck.

thanks judy I'll keep that in mind.

I am anxious to hear about everyones appointments and tell about mine but no time now. BUT before we get concerned about the changes in the support group meetings I asked today and the reason they are changing them and trying them as one meeting with both Lapband and Gastric Bypass is no shows up for the GBS support group!

It was good seeing everyone at the clinic yesterday! I saw Dee and Rain and met Vicki finally. Vicki it was good to meet you and talk.

I did not lose much weight but Dr. H said since I joined a gym I was gaining muscle and probably lost more that I thought. Well I put on dress pants this morning and they are too big! So he is right. I am glad I didn't let the two pound weight loss upset me. He also said that people traditionally gain 10 pounds over the holidays so if I lost 2 I really lost 12! LOL. I told him I was going to a Lapband Conference and he asked if I was going to tell everybody how great my doctor is!

I got a fill. Dr. H said he didn't think I needed one but he would leave it up to "the girls". I had Barb. Since it was my first she checked on what was in there and I had 1.5 cc, she added 2cc so now I have 3.5 restriction. I have a luncheon this afternoon. I will have to wait and see how it affects my eating. I will have to be extra careful. I do not want to embarrass myself!

How did everyone elses appointment go?

Well, I lost 11 lbs so Im pretty happy. It was a lot of hard work and will power and of course excercise. I also got a fill of 1cc because I can tell Im getting hungrier a lot sooner and I can eat way too much. Apparently my port is not as easy as everyone elses. He pushed on me and poked me for over ten minutes saying things like ... this is weird, this moves more than I would have expected. Fun times. I feel like a squashed banana. I had to call off from work today because Im sore and barfy. I have tried to eat and I can only have a few forks full. Im happy, I just have to get my brain to stop when Im full. Dont want to stretch out my pouch!

Talk to you guys soon

Rain

Rain, pretty photo! Congratulations on the weight loss. sorry your fill was so difficult. You can practically see my port! I was filled just a few hours before you and was able to eat chicken and green Beans for lunch today. I am full!

Yesterday Dr. H didn't seem to concerned about my 2 lb weight loss and said since I was going to a gym I probably lost more weight but gained muscle. Gosh darn, I put on my dress pants for todays luncheon and they were big!!! I guess he was right!

Linda,

2 lbs is better than nothing especially with the dreaded holidays. You should ask them how much your body fat has changed since your last appt. I think that would be a good indicator of you building muscles. They told me yesterday that I had lost 4% since the last visit.

Danielle,

I think that the last time I had a fill was in September. Yesterday was my 3rd fill. I've been trying to follow week one of South beach since Mid November and I think that is the reason that I did ok with the weight loss. South Beach is hard but it does work if you can get rid of those pesky carbs!

Call to schedule the psych consult, mine took a month to get in. If you think there is a possibility of sleep apnea you could ask you doctor to recomend a sleep study.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
