I'm scheduled to be at the hosptial at 8:00 am (3/3). At noon today I drank half the bottle of citrate then at 2 pm I will drink the other half. No more food just Clear Liquids here on out then after midnight...nothing. I'm nervous but excited. Can't wait to hear how everyone is doing in a couple days.

My doctor didn't say anything to me about Citrate either. I'm on the liquid diet and can't have anything after midnight either. Which that won't be a problem as I have to be up at 4:45AM to be to the hospital by 6:15. Surgery at 8:30AM and my doc said I should be home by 2:00PM. WOW, modern medicine, you gotta love it! : )

GOOD LUCK to everyone, I'm sure we all do great!

Dr Spaw at Baptist Hospital Nashville TN. He has you go on a 2 week diet of Protein Shakes and one lean cusine per day before surgery. It shrinks the liver so that he has easier access to do the lapband. I have just bought the Cambridge diet Protein Drink It is really good!! 110 calories per serving, with lots of Protein. My surgery is March 24th, I am so excited!!!

What is the citrate for?

They never mentioned that to me.

It's a "bowel prep". Basically it makes you go #2 to clean your insides out, I guess. It tastes awful and havent went yet so we'll see.........

We can do this!

Thanks for the well wishes and positive thoughts, folks!

I'm home and feeling a little uncomfortable but otherwise I'm in great spirits. I won't sit at the computer for too long but I wanted to touch base and check in on our other bandsters.

And yes, they wanted to keep me overnight but I wasn't having it. My surgeon (Dr. Hamn is AMAZING btw) sat down with me and made sure I was fine, reminded me I would get the "better drugs" if I stayed overnight and then turned me loose.

hope all are doing well.

I will be in overnight and truly looking forward to a night there, just in case of the pain.

I have never heard of the citrate as a prep for surgery either. In the past it was a prep solution for a colonoscopy and I remember the nasty task..I had mine mixed in the ice frost gatorade, seemed to help a "little" bit.

kepp in touch and let us all know how tings are going.:rolleyes2:

Hi all! Surgery went great, was home by 2:00 PM and was very sore! Still sore today but no where near yesterday. THANK GOD for this forum as the heating pad was a GODSEND for the gas! And the Gas X strips, those were so helpful. Had to sleep sitting up in the recliner as I was so sore in from all the incisions.

I was also STARVING yesterday. Anyone else? I'm still on a liquid diet for the next two weeks before I go to mushies. Today not so hungry feeling.

Glad to hear the rest of you are doing well! I'm so excited to hear about all of our progress in this weight loss journey. GOOD LUCK to all you future banders. Feel free to ask any questions. :rolleyes2:

Happy Weight Loss!

Terri

hi everyone... i was banded around noon on monday. woke up feeling pretty groggy, but none of the chills and panicky feelings i had after i had ear surgery. having read about the importance of walking asap, i did as much as i could the day of surgery. the first attempt wasn't so great. there was the catheter (damn, was that uncomfortable) and there were the gas pains. it hurt most in my chest, not my shoulder. anyways, i kept getting up and walking. in between, i was pretty drugged out on morphine and sleeping in three to four hour blocks. each time i woke up, i felt exponentially stronger.

made it home yesterday, but not before my upper gi. damn, that was an experience. i had the lapbad-ap put in and my doc's standard of care with that unit is to "install" with a 3cc fill. fine by me, but i'm not sure my radiologist got the message. he had me drink enough barium so that my stomach was filled and the Fluid began seeping into my intestine. well, that required 2 cups of barium and i started feeling nauseous. ugh. back at my room, a cup of broth and green Jello were waiting for me. i had no desire to eat, but i knew that to be discharged from the hospital i had to keep down some food and urinate on my own (no catheter).

i managed to swallow a spoonful of broth, a tablespoon of Jello and a few sips of Water before my first regurgitation incident happened. oy, how unpleasant. first there was the urge to spit and keep spitting and then the heaving up began. having read on other threads about this vile experience, i knew immediately what was happening so i managed to stay calm and get through it. (thanks everyone!) about an hour later, i asked my nurse for anti-nausea meds and that settled me down. my sister and i took another walk around the floor and she distracted me from my discomfort and 30 mins later i was able to try eating again. 2nd try, no probs. i managed half the broth and a quarter of the jello. i was discharged around 4:30p.

now at home and i'm feeling pretty good. of my 5 incisions, only the one with the port hurts. i can touch and press the other ones without much pain. am supposed to start on full liquids today, but i know i'll have to go slow. i prolly will be hungry in a day or two, but for now i've got no appetite.

is anyone doing any kind of stretching to wake up their core muscles? i know we're not supposed to lift weights, but am thinking i'm might stretch out a bit with my elastic bands or somesuch. since i can't bend over very comfortably, i'm thinking of a couple of standing exercises. anyone got ideas?

finally, welcome home everyone. congrats to us all!

I was banded on Monday at about 1:30. I stayed in the hospital, since I had to travel 4 hours to the hospital that did the procedure. I have been pretty nausiated. It mostly occurs when I go from a sitting to a standing position. I do have some anti-nausea medicine...which helps, but makes me very sleepy:closedeyes: As most of you have mentioned, I am also pretty sore. I just keep telling myself that it will pass.

I have been sipping Isopure (from GNC) throughout the day. I has a lot of Protein, but doesn't taste to great. I am just concerned about getting in enough protein...90 grams...each day. I have also started cream of wheat with whey Protein mixed in and fat free cream Soup...withought any chunks. I'm glad for the change from the high Protein shakes. I also mix Special K protein Water powder into my Water to drink throughout the day. It has 5 grams of protein and tastes great.

I'm glad everyone is doing well. I'm thankful to have this forum to discuss this. Keep up the good work all.:)

Hi All,

Well I was banded at 7:30 Monday morning. Everything went well. I stayed overnight in the hospital and needed lots of anti-nausea meds. I am at home and feeling very sore. I have been taking pain meds that my Dr. prescribed but it is only doing so much for my pain. I am still not able to walk comfotably. And today I am super HUNGRY...don't know why...I am following the post-op liquid meals exactly as I should, but today the hunger I am feeling is uncomfortable. Anybody else feeling this way?

Rukshanna

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
