UMass Medical Center Bandsters

I'm curious if there are any other members going through the UMass in Worcester program.

A lot of the problems and complications I have read on the other threads have all been explained before I decided whether to band or bypass.

I wasn't aware of the Manometry test, which was just scheduled for me for the 14th of Feb. Is it annoying but no after affects, like they said?

I thought it was next week, too. My husband got last minute tickets to the Red Sox game today, so I went there. We can try to hook up again in June.

Hi Mich, Congratulations on your banding date!! It will come up soon, and you'll be on your way! That's exciting! It will change your life!

To Lucy, Amm, Mich, Kathryn, and any other bandster out there who's reading this....would you like to get together the next meeting date at UMass about a half hour early , maybe in the cafeteria? It would be nice to meet you all face-to-face. Or maybe after the meeting for a little bit? I'm willing if anyone else is... Looking forward to meeting some of you!

Mary:shades_smile:

I'm willing, but the meeting room is usually open an hour before the meeting. What if we just meet there? I usually haven't had supper before I've gone to the meeting and would rather not venture into the caf. Is there another place?

Hi Amm,

I wasn't sure if we could get in early, but if we can, why not?? I' m good with that, not going to the caf is better for me too, just thought it would be a place to sit. I'd even be happy to meet outside on the lawn . Do you want to shoot for 6:30 in the meeting room?? It will be nice to share a bit with each other. I've learned that even the simplest suggestions can sometimes spur me on and encourage me during the month. Hopefully some others will join us.

I hope so, too.

I'm stuck in a rut, and making bad choices as a result. Just minor stuff now, but it's bothering me. I need to pinpoint what the distraction is, quick!

See you next week.

I just went back thru this thread to get re-acquainted with all I have read.

Kathrynrose, how is the baby progress? How has surgery progress been lately? Are you going to next week's meeting? Look for us early birds.

Mich, how are you holding up? That last couple of weeks were kind of unreal for me.

Lucy, Can you still make next week's meeting? MaryAnn and I will be there by 6:30 so look for us, if you come.

I'm getting excited to meet you all!

Hi Amm,

YAY! I'll look for you at 6:30 in the meeting room next Thursday, July 24! If anyone else can join us, feel free!!! I've always found that talking out what's going on helps me get back on track or find another path that works... it will be really nice to meet you!

Mary

Hi All, Just a reminder there's a meeting at UMass tomorrow at 6:00 (Thursday July 24). Amm, I'm looking forward to meeting you at 5:30 (Sorry, I wrote 6:30 in last email) in the auditorium. Anyone else who'd like to meet us is welcome!!

I was thinking 6:30 too. I'll be there as early as I can get there, which will probably be before 5:30 even, I'll be knitting.

Hope some of you will join us!

My rut is finally passing, I'm eager to chat with you.

I can get there earlier too! Awesome amm! Good for you!! I felt good after my appt with Dr. C this week too....finally dropped 4 pounds after being plateaued for 4 months. I got a fill which will help too. Looking forward to talking with you too, I'll look for the knitter!

hi iam amanda. I am goingt o my first orentation meeting at umass on thursday. i am nervous. i dont really want to go by myself but i want this for me so here i go. I am glad to find people on here from my area. i live central mass about 45mins from worcester. I read you blogs and what is the manometry test and the barium test they sound bad. I really dont know what worcester requires they dont send you anything like that when you call the weight clinic. they just sent me instructions to go to the meeting and then two weeks later to the surgury meeting. Then they would have me fill out a questionaire and call me within two weeks. so herei go to the first meeting. Help with info if you can would greatly appreciate it. Thank you amanda

I Amanda, and welcome!

One year ago I attended the July meeting in much the same way. Hoofed it to the meeting all by myself, just two days before my oldest daughters wedding. I was banded in April, and haven't looked back. I was so impressed at the first meeting, it was wonderful.

I've made friends with similar problems along the way. My family and friends are very supportive, but having the professional staff at your fingertips is the best. These two meetings are the best way to go about it. Ask questions, when you have them, and make sure you know the resources behind the person you are getting an answer from. My experience with the band has been a breeze, but I did some true soul searching before I committed to the band. This included an honest evaluation of what would make me happy in my journey to be more healthy. My opinion is, we all need to do that for ourselves, in order to be successful for the long term. It's not a magic bullet, but it is a wonderful tool.

thank you for the advise i will let you know of my progress thank you again amanda

Hi there!

I posted in the wrong area, I meant to post my information in this folder as I will be going through UMASS Worcester's Weight Center.

I have my first "intake" appointment scheduled for 9/12/08 and I can't wait!! I attended both the meetings in May and I have had to wait until September for my first appointment! I guess there are lots of people that are interested. :smile2: I would love to hear about people's experiences at UMASS with the hospital and the staff.

I am 32 years old, live in the Worcester area and my BMI is around 47, Yikes!

I would LOVE to chat with other people going through the program at UMASS.

Can't wait to meet you all through the boards here!

Kindly,

RazzyRobyn

My first "intake" appointment was moved up from September 10th to tomorrow morning!! I am so excited and nervous!!

I would love to chat with any of you UMASS Bandsters!

Kindly,

Robyn

Hi all,

I have a conflict tomorrow and won't be at the monthly meeting after all. Look for each other, and let's keep chatting. How was your appointment Razz?

How are you doing, Amanda?

Mich, you still kicking around?

Mary, I hope you are going tomorrow. I will miss you.

I'm still at the same plateau, but I'm going for my 3rd fill today. We shall see. I did manage to buy a Wii last week, and that is getting me moving more often. It is really fun, if you can afford it.

Welcome to Robyn (how did your appointment go?) and Amanda!

Just a reminder about the surgical discussion group meeting that meets Thurs. Aug. 28. The meeting is open to all post-op Weight-loss patients AND anyone else who just has questions, etc! Hope you can come!

Hi Amm, So sorry you will be missing the meeting, I was looking forward to seeing you again this month! the fill will definitely help. I am definitely going to be there, so anyone new who'd like to chat, please let me know and we can hook up! I'd be happy to arrive half hour early and spend some time with you. I am 2 years and 8 months out from my band surgery, 160 lbs lighter, and SO much healthier and happier! It was the BEST thing I ever did for myself.

Looking forward to meeting any other bandster who attends the Thursday meeting!
