Post-op: So depressed... so lost

Recommended Posts

Kelle: I wasn't sure if the pill would be too big. It really is not a large pill, so I think I will be ok. I plan on starting it back up... or perhaps looking into an alternative someone suggested.

L.A. You do need to get back on that antidepressant asap. Do you have a family Dr or someone you know well. See him/her and get a new prescription. I was a psychiatric nurse for many years and have seen the havoc depression can cause in people, relationships and families. If you need it, there is no reason you can't take it with the band. I bet

75% of overweight people are also depressed. Same with other addictions. People try to self medicate with food, alcohol, drugs etc.

Please take care of yourself.

Hi,

I am 64 and consdering lap band. I'm on a lot of meds for medical problems and wondered if you were. You are younger than I but this is the first comment I have read by someone in their fiftys.

Thanks and good luck!

Della

Hi Della. I wasn't on meds for medical problems... just anti-dep. I am actually doing TONS better now! I am actually 31... not in my fifties. I am sure you will do fine if you continue on the same path you ae now with your medication.

Best of luck to you with your upcoming surgery!

There are age related groups on the forum. Search around you'll find them. You can read some of the threads by people in their fifties and sixties!

I'm 53 & on Prozac, Synthroid, a diuretic for hypertension, and estrogen. Capsules have to be broken open and eaten with applesauce or some such, and taste AWFUL, but the other pills are tiny and work OK.

hey! I know what you mean! I am feeling depressed too! I had my surgery last week and none of my clothes fit ( I am hoping it is because I am still swollen ) I am not eating all that much, but I just feel like I am gaining weight and since I am still on liquids too I cant turn to food for comfort. It sucks. I have just been crying all day long. I know things will get better, but I just started back on prozac today! hope it helps and we both will feel better ! )

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
