It still did not work, but most of it made it.

There's a new band out now that someone posted about; This is the "Realize" Band. www.realize.com

CMMC uses both the Realize & Lapband Banding.

Don,

I am the one with the 2 incisions and the APLarge band. I have a doctor's appointment on Friday, and I will ask him more questions about the type of band I received.

Anyone who has had their 1st post-op: Do you have any suggestions about the questions I should ask my doctor at this appointment? I always seem to have questions when I get home, but never think of them in advance. :)

This is the link for the shake recipes I have been using. There are more than 200, and I have found a lot of them that I just love. I don't feel as though I am dieting at all, yet I am steadily losing weight. I copied them off and put them in a notebook. Variety is the spice of life! Enjoy!:wink2:

I lost 14 pounds in the last three weeks since I last seen the doctor, and am healing well (even with a large incision from hernia repair). The doctor was very pleased, and so am I. I started pureed foods tonight per the doctors instructions. I had 1/2 cup of pureed roast beef, and had no problems. I ate very slowly!! It's so had to believe I am feeling very full. I am so excited, and ready to continue the journey to a new me, so I had to share my good news with all my 60+ lapband friends.

Good for you, Karen. It sounds like you are well on your way. You'll be eating the real roast beef before long! Your 14 pound loss is really great. Nice to know they won't be back, isn't it?

Keep up the good work.

I guess I'll jump in here. I'm margie. I'm 61 and have lap band surgery scheduled for September 16 - Dr. Posner in Buffalo. It's been quite a journey - the decision (I was told emphatically by a director of a support group that she would NEVER recommend it for me. Only for very young people with not too much to lose who had not been fat very long.) I was really surprised when my doc recommended it - but he will let me choose. Anyway, I am 99% sure it will be lapband. The more I read here and in other threads, the more certain I am that I CAN do this with lapband. Right now he has me on the South Beach so I will learn how to eat (I already know how to eat...and I like eating this way...why the heck have I not done it consistently all my life???) So now I am just waiting, waiting, waiting. STarted the process in February so it seems like a loooong time. I have enjoyed reading your posts...stupid question: what is PBing? I can guess but what does it stand for? Just wanted to say hey.

Hi,

Welcome! I assume that's Buffalo NY?? I was born and raised there and just came back from visiting family there.

There are plenty of us here in our 50's and 60's, and with high starting BMI's who are enjoying plenty of success with the LapBand so don't let anyone discourage you! That's the first time I've heard that "young and not too much to lose" line!! Poppycock!!

PBing... Productive Burping. Not the same as vomiting. You ate too much, too fast, bites too big, and it pops back out, often after doing some "sliming", which is kind of an indescribable experience!! I've only had it happen to me 3X in almost 13 months. It's a learning experience! First two times it was chicken, which often doesn't agree with me. Then last week, it was a hamburger. But I just had my 5th fill last month and I am less tolerant of bread than I was before. Should've known better than to try to eat the bun! Only at 1/2, but it was enough to make the rest of my afternoon miserable until it finally came up! Yuck!

Margie, like you, I am a little confused by somw of the acronyms, so I can't help you there. I am truly astonished that someone would tell you that you are "too old" for the banding because of the reasons you stated. I am also 61, and all 4 of my specialists highly recommended it. I was told at the bariatric center that they don't do gastric bypasses on us "60's" because of the higher risks, but the lapbad has been very successful on their patients up to age 65. You seem to have all the motivation and determination you need to be successful at this. Everyone getting this done has had to "go through the hoops" in order to be prepared for surgery. Also, insurance companies have different requirements. Keep at it - your time will come. I couldn't be more thrilled with my recent banding, and I am losing weight steadily. I can;t believe how much better I feel already. DO THIS FOR YOU!!

Welcome Margiemm2 I am also 61 years old, and just had the lapband surgery August 4th. If you put your mind to it, you can do it!!! I started low carb about 4 months prior to my surgery date and the weight really starting coming off. That just gave me more hope of being able to do this. Good luck to you, and keep in touch. All the 60+ people have been so supportive of each other, and that is a GREAT help.

Hi Margiemm2, You just believe in yourself. I just had my lapband surgery May 21, a gift to myself for my 64th birthday. I could not have given myself anything better. I have lost 36 lbs since that date, and continually losing 1-2 lbs a week. Just had my 2d fill Aug 4th and doing great. Have faith, and read the posts here, and you will have all the support anybody could ask for. I know I have. Good luck to you.

Linda

Many thanks to Phyllis (for the acronym explanations!) - Yes, Buffalo, NY. And to Mary, Karen and Linda. I am worried about my weight loss. I used to lose really easily (just kept gaining it back...) but the last couple of years it has become REALLY DIFFICULT. For example, I have followed South Beach religiously for 2-3 months, lost only about 13 pounds (officially only ten but I was 3 higher at one time) Then last week at the shore I stuck to the South Beach with only one or two very minor lapses (ONE sandwich for lunch ONE day and one piece of salt Water taffy...that's IT!) and gained back FIVE! All this while everyone else was stuffing down pizza and fudge etc. etc. I don't mind eating healthy foods - in fact I actually have good habits, but it's discouraging to not be rewarded by seeing the weight go down. I guess that is EXACTLY why I am going to do the lapband - so that I will be able to lose once again. I will, won't I? It's good to see others being successful. Gives me hope...

I am 61 soon to be 62 and was banded April 14. It is the best decision I have made. Lost 41 pounds so far, down 2.5 dress sizes and getting plenty of compliments. I feel great. Off of BP meds and soon to be off of diabetes meds (per doctor). This is a great web site for encouragement. Be blessed!

I'm 67 and will be 68 on the 22nd of this month. I had my surgery on new years eve and have lost more than 40 Lbs in the last eight months. I've had some problems but they were me doing something wrong. Eating to fast or not chewing to much, also eating during a stressful situation. Also I seen postings from people in there 70's that are doing will with the band. So let don't listen to people, do your home work and make the decision and go with it. I know I did and have never looked back or regretted it.

Katie, please try to chill. I know Sept 11 sounds like a long time to wait, but the time will pass. Use this time to concentrate on chewing really well, taking small bites, etc. You want to be ready, with the right habits, before you get to a successfull fill point.

It took 4 fills for me to reach that point, but I think I'm finally there. I just had a fill on 8/4 and I am feeling full almost all the time. I have had 2 or 3 times of PBing. Not a good thing, and I know it's because I swallow before I think, and chew enough. Very uncomfortable. I am finally showing a weight loss on my scale. A pound for each week, and it feels so good :mad2:

My doc told me several times to "go for it" if I wanted but to realize that the barriatric groups want young healthy specimens to show off their skills, so not to be disappointed if they turned me down. I didn't go for it until a couple of women at my church scheduled surgeries, then I decided to follow one to SW Med School. They were fantastic and really care about the patient, and are committed to help them have a successfull outcome.

I am 65 and have several med problems. But those are going to be resolved, now that the weight is going away.

Well, I'm finally getting sleepy and have to get up fairly early, so I'm gonna run, be abundantly blessed,

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
