I weigh myself twice a week - Saturday and Wednesday, first thing in the morning. I then enter the details in to an Excel spreadsheet (how sad is that?). I measure Stones, Pounds, Kilos lost and how many % I am to target. I also measure BMI. I even have hyperlinks in Excel to images of me at certain weights. It's quite interesting to see the data over the months.

I have been weighing myself every morning because I was only banded 10 days ago and I am still losing pretty quickly. It is amazing to actually see the scale go down on a daily basis!

Of course, this is only temporary. I am guessing by six weeks (or sooner), when my weight loss slows down, I will start weighing myself once a week, maybe twice.

Ok, I am obsessed. I have to move the scales from the bathroom - every time I am in there, I always jump on. Which at the moment with my liquid diet is all the time! I only record my weight each Tues since my band was placed but I just can't help seeing the numbers drop!

I go from the every day obsession to the once-a-week recording and back again every week. I work on a remote mine site on an 8 day on/6 days off shift and when I'm home, I weigh myself every morning without fail and often several times a day (only the lowest counts!!). That is a continuing source of frustration as my weight does fluctuate a couple of pounds a day due to fluids, etc. When I'm away on site, I don't have access to scales, so have to just tough it out till I get home. It's a great feeling when I get home and can see the results of a week in one go. I wish I could just make do with once a week, even when I'm home, but I just can resist it on a daily basis when I'm there.

when i stopped weighing myself everyday and went to once a month...i started to lose more weight. i started focusing more on setting up my day with healthier eating and exercising instead of obsessing over the scale (which i did for years).

i find when i weigh myself alot i usually am cheating and trying to see if i can "beat the scale"

i also measure myself once a month because during my lapband journey....i sometimes lost inches over weight....

Hi Steph...

I weigh once a week every Monday Morning totaly naked after I use the bathroom and wash my Face!! ( what a ritual right!!). And I keep a Journal/Chart of the date and weight and what I am feeling at the time. I was banded 10/29/07 and have lost 33.5 lbs. I still have not got to my perfect feeling FILL. I go monday 01/21/08 for my 3 rd fill. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this will be the one.

I weigh every morning when I wake up- after I pee, naked before my shower. And if for some reason I end up taking a second bath or shower after a evening workout or something- I weigh again.

The discussion on this thread has helped me decide how to handle weighing. Initially, I wanted to only weigh at the doctor's office but I'm just not patient enough to wait for four or five weeks at a time. And I couldn't seem to stop myself from weighing daily.

So now I'm going to weigh each morning and only record the new low weight. A weight that is higher than that is merely a fluctuation (though some fluctuations have been known to last for a week or two, at least in the past.) :(

But I think this approach is better for my psyche. :girl_hug:

Hehehe - I have a similar approach when home. When I hit that plateau/regain phase in the post-op, I REFUSED to update my ticker until I could show that it had moved down again. It took from 14 Dec to 3 Jan before I could update it, but I wasn't going to update it UPwards!

My body seems to "try on" a new weight and then waits awhile before it buys it. Maybe it's on a layaway plan. :girl_hug:

You all have been awesome! Great reasons for weighing...including obsession. I completely understand.

I think I have decided to try the every few days plan. Once a week is just too infrequent and once a day is driving me nuts. So....on Friday I decided I wasn't going to look at the scale until Monday....and then on I went on Saturday. So now, I promised I wasn't crawling on until Friday. I'm out of town tonight so won't have an opportunity until Thursday.....oh the willpower!

I weight myself after shower, before dressing. My eyes aren't open enough before shower. Hell, somedays I don't even bother turning on a light to shower....let alone read a scale :rolleyes2:

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
