OK I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that bounces around 1-3 lbs. I usally weigh about 2-3 times a week just to make sure I don't shoot up 10 lbs. The weight loss is really slow right now, I feel like I will never get to my goal.

I will freely admit I am addicted to the scale. I weigh when I get up and before I go to bed.

When I weighed myself before I went to bed last night, I weighed the same as I did when I weighed first thing in the morning. That usually means in the morning I will weigh less.

Sure enough, I lost 2 more lbs. I haven't lost anything in a couple of months. It's nice to actually be below the goal I set for myself. I wonder if I will keep losing. The band is just the greatest thing!

I have to weigh every day to keep myself accountable. If I am up even one lb, I am really good the next day.

I get on the scale in the gym every day after I work out but I keep a log of my weight and only record it once a week. Our bodies fluctuate up to 2 lbs in a given day for Water weight anyway, so weighing yourself daily can be frustrating. I keep a graph that I mark with my weight on Mondays. I don't let the day to day weights get me down,. If I see I am creeping up through the week I know I have to be careful but overall as long as I see that I am going down on the chart when Monday's come I know I am going in the right direction.

It a good practice for myself to weigh once only per day. It always upon first waking up and doing the morning pee wearing only my undies and my nightshirt.

It keeps me accountable. When I notice an upward trend that is more than usual, it tells me to get back on that horse.

Its also a great motivator. When I notice a downward trend, it makes me feel great and want to keep up whatever I'm doing.

I weigh myself every morning just to keep myself motivated and on track. Though I have been getting frustrated again, as now I am stuck between 28 and 30 lbs. back and forth. My 1cc fill didn't do a thing, so I will be going back in soon for another. I think I should have done my measurements before surgery because I feel smaller and it would be nice to know how many inches I have lost.

I'm debating on whether I should weigh once a week or once in the morning. The once a day thing is getting very depressing because I don't see anything happening. What do you all do?

I was feeling your depression at getting on the scale everyday, cause it never seemed to change. So I started a new policy with myself that has been working very well; I only weigh in and post my weight when I go to the doctor. I've been going about every 3-6 weeks for a fill. I don't change my ticker, or post my weight on lap-band.com until I weigh in there. And believe it or not, everytime I go they are all like "great job" you've lost another 6,7, or 8lbs! You cannot stress your weight daily, it changes based on Water retention, bowel movements, muscle mass, etc. You will only get depressed and feel like falling off the wagon if you weigh in everyday. Take a break from the scale, watch what you eat, excercise, and weigh in at your doctor's office. You will be amazed at your progress! Good luck, and I hope this helps you :-)

You’re right; whatever works best for you is the most important thing. Weighing daily works for some, but if you’re finding it more negative toward your efforts, then its best not to do that.

Wow. I can't believe this question is back up at the top!

I went back to read the comments now that I'm further into this.

My pcp says that those who are most successful at maintaining a healthy weight for an extended period of time are those who weigh daily. Not to worry about the little ups and downs but because you notice the up before it becomes a big up.

I'm now using my wii fit to weigh in. I do that almost daily. I love it except that if you are up just a little it makes you choose why you think you are gaining....and doesn't give you a "daily fluctuation" choice. I work much harder the days that I get a gain though.

I used to only count my official weigh ins at the docs but now I don't go every month and I don't want to go two or three months without changing my ticker. My wii fit is usually a couple of pounds lighter than my docs but it subtracts 2 pounds for clothes too.

Thanks for your answers guys.

I weigh every day in the morning when I wake up. Unless I know I ate too much the day before and know that I might have gained...then I avoid the scale!

I was only weighing at the doctors but one of my coworkers gave me a brand new scale when they asked how much I have lost since I look great and I couldn't tell them. So, I weigh now every Monday morning after going to the bathroom and before my shower.

I am on it at least once a day, sometimes more often. I am a little obsessive about it but I like know just where I am and I don't take small or TOM gains seriously as long as I keep moving in the right direction every week.

I am easily freaked out and get obsessed by the numbers, so I choose at this point anyway to only weigh at my monthly Dr's visits. Then, its always a pleasant surprize! I've been banded 4 months. Once I get to goal, I plan to weigh weekly.

When I wake up, before I go to bed, before and after a poop, pretty much if I walk past the scale I get on it. lol

What she said. I am completely addicted to my scale. It draws me like a moth to a flame... I love to hate it. *sigh* I really need rehab, don't I?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
