Anyway - my appointment is at 1:30 tomorrow and I'll let you guys know how it goes. With any luck my doctor will give me a swift kick in the pants (and a fill) and that will get me back on track.

Sooo . . . I am home from my appointment and have I mentioned lately that I LOVE my doctor??? Dr. Spivak for President!!! He is the sweetest man. Instead of telling me what a moron I am, he just politely filled me half-way back up and will do the rest next Wednesday. He said it is a bad idea to put too much in at one time. He prefers to let the body adjust to the gradual re-filling of the band. Patience are not my strong suit. He did do the fluero (sp?) and said everything looked perfect, which eased my mind.

I was up ummmm . . . 8 pounds today from last Wednesday  (ouch) but he said 5 of them are probably Fluid my body needed from being dehydrated from the virus - Let's go with that . . . It sounds better than gaining 8 pounds in 6 days, and I'm not sure I consumed that many extra calories . . . That would be like - 28,000 extra calories - no way!

I guess it is too soon to know if the fill today is going to make much difference; I've not tried to eat anything since leaving his office but do know from past experience that when filled to 2.0, I needed more - seems my 'sweet spot' is about 2.3 and a half - 2.4 is too tight . . .

So - the afternoon begins . . . Baseball practice at 5pm and club volleyball at 7:00 - I hope you all have a wonderful evening. Thanks again for the support ~

So an update and then I will stop talking about me on YOUR board. Nurse called today and says I need an unfill. She said in a "perfect world" one would get an unfill EVERYTIME they pb because the stomach swells and you could risk slippage. Then after the stomach rests that you would come back in and get a fill. So I decided that I am just going to have the complete unfill. If need be I could take another day off of work (it would be NO PAY!) and get a fill if I can't maintain. I think I have 2 reasons to NOT gain weight: DOn't want to lose pay, and TT coming up!!!!

Salsa: I've been out of town and just catching up on this thread. Being too tight can be miserable. Too bad you're so far a way from your doc. Hopefully, with all the exercise you're doing you'll be able to control your weight. What I've learned from my unfill is that I do rely on my band to help me control my appetite and that I am hungrier with an unfill. Like Mommi-Hammi, I tried the hamburgers and stuff I hadn't been able to eat in 1 1/2 years. Fortunately, I haven't gained weight. Haven't lost any either. I'm looking forward to exercising again. I'm walking but that is it. If I were you, I wouldn't get a complete unfill, just about half way. That's just my opinion. You're probably at the top of your game and will be fine. I've had to fills now. from being at empty and I'm more comfortable now, even though I'm not at my sweet spot. Good luck and keep us posted!

I did get the complete unfill, but I refuse to let myself eat the things that I haven't been able to eat before. I am afraid it will put me on a slippery slope. Turns out the reason that I was so tight is that the nurse practitioner actually put 2ccs in when I went in for the unfill, instead of taking anything out. I was a little pissed because I have been so miserable. However we do the fills under fluoro and I was SOOO swollen. So they called the doc in and said I didn't have a choice in the matter...the whole thing was coming out. I am starting to train for a half-marathon, so my exercise and my stubborness with food should keep me in the right direction.

Thank you to all of you who gave me your advice.

I can't believe she could make a mistake like putting in instead of taking out! I guess you'd be mad! I sure would be. You sound like you'll do fine without the fill.

Yeah I was pretty angry considering that everyone keeps pushing me into maintenace (lap band doc, PS, DH) and then they kept wondering why I couldn't stop losing...uh hello...it hurt too bad to eat. Again thanks for all the support.

Hi everyone ~

I am curious if any of you are having the same upper abdomen issues as me, and if so - does anyone know what the heck the deal is . . .

Before I had my TT on 2-19-08, I was fat and flabby and it was pretty much evenly distributed on my abdomen. After my tuck, my lower abdomen area is so tight that you could probably bounce a quarter off of it, but my upper abdomen looks huge to me. The best way I can describe it (still have no pictures - sorry) is that it looks like a watermelon. It is tight, but very round . . . There is a noticeable drop-off between my 'watermelon area' and the tight area.

I go back to see my PS on Friday and am very anxious to hear what he says about it, but in the mean time - I'd like to know if anyone else's stomach looks ( or did look) like that and if so, if it is going to even out. I really don't like the way this looks.

Thanks,

Mommi-hammi - you're scaring me. Thats the area my surgeon is concerned about bc it has the inner fat and he can't cut that off or even Lipo it - geesh - I hope I don't have a watermelon under my ribs. Maybe its just swelling.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
