Liver Shrinkage Diet struggles

Wow four weeks! I thought the three I did sucked, I feel for you. Just keep telling yourself one more hour, one more day towards getting the healthy thinner body you want, need and deserve! My husband did the same thing for me..lol still does. Just remember you CAN do this, its just a small blip on your new journey and the results will be worth it.

I added no sodium clear broth packets to my fatty liver reduction diet which helped, it was "hot soup" with flavor and 5 calories and was helping with Water intake. Could have as much as I wanted and it wasn't plain Water or another Protein drink!

Here we have Bovril in jars and cubes. I forgot about these. A different flavour low cal drink. I had them after surgery because it was winter and wicked cold.

I had to do 4 weeks also. My live saver was asking if I could have any cucumbers or celery. They said yes. I needed something to crunch and chew on!! I found out most dill pickles are under 5 calories so I allow 2 a day of those and eat lots of sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles. Wishing you the best. I have surgery in two days!

like a lot of the folks here, i only had to do 2 weeks. it was 3 shakes a day for two weeks.

i had to go back to do the math, but figured out you wrote your initial post on day 2 of your liquid diet, yes? Most will tell you that the first 3-4 days are the worst of it. If you white knuckle it those first couple days, you'll likely find it gets much, much easier. I'm sure there's some science to it, but essentially your body gets used to the lower intake and does something else instead of whine loudly lol (google ketosis). But you have to try to not "cheat" during those days or you may just reset the clock, and have to do those 3-4 days of discomfort again.

Doing math again, today should be day 4 for you...how are you doing?

In terms of the 4 week road ahead of you, it does sound daunting, but maybe if you could break it down to week long increments it may be easier to bear. just get this friday and you'll have one week under your belt. then look forward to the next friday. or if a week seems too long, just get to the end of the day. whatever it takes to shrink the seemingly endless void into small manageable parts (with small victories along the way).

...and if you fall off, get up and start again. no need for shame spirals or self-flagellation.

good luck! ❤️

I had a very regimented 4-week liver shrinkage diet. The base was the shake but I would also get to have specific items like a low fat string cheese, no sugar yogurt, ands a few Snacks of sugar free pudding or Jello. The only thing was that I could add whatever I wanted if it was fat free broth, vinegar, or raw veggie after I had gotten in all Protein for the day. I definitely hit the broth and vinegar hard when I just needed something that wasn’t sweet.

I'm so sorry you are having to do this for so long. My surgery is tomorrow. My doctor only required 10 days, and that was bad enough. I was told, however, that the first 3 days are the worst, and I found that to be true. Your post date would have been your 3rd day. Praying that it gets easier for you! The past few days, while hungry, I just didn't care anymore about the hunger. What has gotten me is the fatigue. Best wishes to you!!

In another weight loss attempt I went on an all liquid diet for 4 months (yup months). The first week is the hardest. After that the routine was kind of set. I found it very helpful to keep busy. It was especially important to keep my hands busy. Hobbies, like playing solitaire or crochet, and physical activities that you cannot eat while doing were helpful. I also focused on just counting down the days. Reminding myself that I only had "X" number of days to go helped me focus on the end game. And Water. Lots of water.

Best wishes!

I used sugar free powders for gatorade to help out. There was one day where I had withdrawal of all the sugar and junk I was getting rid of but outside of vertigo and nausea it was relatively easy. I also inertially went to the middle of nowhere in North Carolina where I couldn't be tempted to cheat on the diet.

So how is it going now? It's been a bit since your original post, so I'm curious how you're doing now.

Kosher pickles and the Pickle Juice were the saving grace for me. They were not on the approved food list but based on the nutritional information should be unless the patient is on an extreme sodium restriction diet. I confessed my addition to my doctor and amazingly pickles are now included on the group's pre-op diet.

Hi everyone!

I have my surgery date scheduled for the 16th of March 2024. Due to a high BMI of 61 I have to do 4 weeks of the liver shrinkage diet. I started on Friday the 16th and I'm really struggling. I'm on total Meal Replacement shakes x 3 daily with just sugar free squash and Water to drink alongside these. My total intake per day is 800 calories or less.

How did you guys do it? I know I HAVE to do it, but it's so hard. I cry daily because I'm hungry and I want food. My stomach constantly growls, my stomach hurts and the shakes never feel like they satisfy any of that hunger. My partner is so supportive, he eats away from me and hides food so I don't feel any further distress and jealousy. I know why I'm doing this but I don't know how I'm expected to do this for a whole 4 weeks.

Any advice or support is welcome. If anyone is doing the same atm for their March surgery please let me know, maybe we can buddy up!

Thank you all ❤️

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
