mouth rawness from anesthesia breathing tube

Recommended Posts

I am 3 days post op surgery. Everything is going as I had figured. However, the breathing tube for the anesthesia tore the roof of my mouth up and my uvula is extremely swollen. It is so painful to swallow anything and when talking the uvula gets stuck on my tongue and makes me want to gag. I need to vent and see if anyone else has had this problem. If so how long does it take to heal. I am very frustrated and feel like crying.

bless your heart..I have never heard of this, but it sounds really painful...does taking your pain meds help? I would call the doctor...sounds like they really messed up on your throat..

I went in to see the nurse on wed. the day after my surgery. All they did was give me some spray pain medicine and told me to continue antibiotics. I am going to see my Ear nose and throat hopefully Monday if they can squeeze me in. I can barely eat due to the raweness. Thank you for listening. Kelly

A sore throat is actually quite common post-surgically. A little tender care and rest will help it heal faster. Use the throat spray to ease discomfort and eventually the swelling will subside. Other common side effects include cough and hoarseness afterward. Drink warm not HOT tea, as hot tea will cause more engorgement of the tissues and lead to more discomfort (even though it feels nice at first).

Hope you feel better soon!

(I'm a registered nurse and see this frequently)

Hi ladies ~ This is my first time on here.

I was banded on Nov 29, 07. My only complaint is my mouth has been broken out for about 2 1/2 weeks. My lips are swollen and red also inside my mouth are a few small blisters. I thought maybe an allergic reaction to the fruit juices, so I stopped that. Maybe the vitamins.... stopped them. No change... maybe yeast? I'm trying the over the counter capsules for that now. Any more ideas??? Of course, I could go see my regular Dr. but I guess that would just be too easy... huh? "It's the holidays", is my only excuse. Thank you !

I must be very lucky. I was banded on the 18th and other than waking up a little raspy and with chapped lips I had no indication I even had a breathing tube in. I am so glad, because it was one thing that really scared the heck out of me prior to surgery.

I was nervous but came through ok. My lips had a lil bruise, throat was sore, belly sore, but Im ok.Im actually starvin! I am tired of liquids! I ate some mash potatoes and I m fine! I actually had a lil diet coke- I forgot I couldnt have any! And was ok. My only problem was last nite- I was watching tv w my husband and at one point began laughing so hard I was crying from the pain, but I could not stop laughing and the more I laughed he laughed and I cryed! Now it is funny but I was in sooo much pain- it actually still hurts! I said to him- this will be funny- but not right now. I made him shut off the tv and we went to bad. Damn funny tv-lol!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
