There's a "dreaded 3 week stall?" This is the first I've heard of that! I'll be 3 weeks on Monday!

Yup, the 3 week stall is real. It varies as to when it strikes you but it seems to get everyone. It is the body recalibrating after surgery to the reduced calories and weight loss. It'll break, sometimes it takes a few weeks to do so, but it will break! Make sure you are all tracking your measurements, often people lose inches but not lbs...

I know that feeling..

My surgery is set for 2:30 Monday 30th. I'm eager and nervous at the same time. Hunger stopped for me on day 3...

I just pray everything goes smoothly and I don't have to stay in hospital.

Good luck on your upcoming procedure!!

Everyone has been going through so much! I'm glad for all of us though.

My RNY was on October 16th. I haven't posted since then since I had a really hard time the first week, but I'm doing better now, thankfully!

Post-op in the hospital was fine, but after that I had a hard time getting any liquids in. Day 3 at home, I only got 6 or 7 ounces in, and kept throwing up nothing. I went to the ER, got 2 liters of IV fluids and had a CT scan which was fine. I was having serious buyer's remorse about the surgery. I was not happy. But sometimes it's just hard to see that things will change. Because they do!

My surgeon (who talked to me twice on the phone for about 10 minutes each, once while she was going to dinner with her family! So thankful) had me go to a hydration infusion clinic every day last week, to get 2 liters a day. They had wicked nice nurses, one of whom had had an RNY with my same surgeon 4 years ago! She has kept her weight off and is doing really well, despite having a rough start. She was so encouraging! We talked a lot.

I feel so much better now! It's not perfect, and I keep forgetting to take SMALL sips, lol. I'm on full liquids until Tuesday/Halloween, so I'm planning on making a pumpkin puree something-or-other to Celebrate. There are a bunch of recipes online for Pumpkin Whip/Pumpkin Fluff, if anyone is interested and in the puree stage. There's always pumpkin Soup, if full liquids are better! We shall see.

VGS Surgery on 10/16- I get to start purée on Tuesday and I’ve been counting down. It’s hard to not just skip to soft stage but I know I’ve got to do it right.
still having a really difficult time with my fluids. I picked up a few different sports drinks to try and tempt myself but other than some killer heartburn it was no good. The only one I loved and finished was some coconut Water. Which isn’t the best option. Suggestions? I tried crystal light/Gatorade/protein water- my go to was diet A&W rootbeer packets but it’s just too sweet and tummy upset from sugar replacements.

All new to this!! Had my surgery 2 days ago it didn’t go great they had to cut me open due to a bowel obstruction so I’m super sore. But happy that part of the journey is behind me and I look forward to following all you guys on your journeys.

Hello all so I had my surgery (sleeve) on Friday and I can take down liquids pretty well just feel like I can finish the 1oz cups so easy because I’m so thirsty all the time…but question I keep getting a pain at the pit of my stomach has anyone experienced that? If so what can I do to reduce this? That’s the only thing that makes me weak. Also day 3 is it still just small sips of 1oz cup? For the popsicles should I be able to finish one whole popsicle? Sorry I know so many questions

I'm in the same boat. I find that when the sweetness is too much for me, cream Soups, Lono Life Bone Broth, and regular beef or chicken broth (without the added Protein - my surgeon told me to reduce protein products in the beginning if I'm too full to drink enough fluids) help quite a bit.

I have that pain too. Mine is not too sharp, but if it gets that way, I would probably call my surgeon's office, because they want to know if anything is wrong. I'm guessing it's just that the stomach still needs to heal after such a huge surgery. As far as sipping, I moved on to 2 ounces in a cup when I felt I could (they gave me a sleeve of 2.5 ounce cups to take home from the hospital). I think don't worry about the how much popsicle at once. Only do what you can tolerate. This is all my non-expert opinion of course.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
