So as you all know, I had my revision from sleeve to bypass on June 28th because of severe gerd, esophagitis, gastritis, and a ton of pre-cancerous polyps all through my stomach. I was put on 80mg of Nexium daily and still had a lot of pain and break through gerd issues. After the revision, the PPI was lowered to 40mg daily for 2 weeks and then on weeks 3 and 4, go to 40mg every other day and then completely stop at the beginning of week 5. Well here I am, doing the evry other day, and I had horrible gerd today!!! My throat was burning, my esophagus felt like I had acid in it, and I was MISERABLE. I had to take a Nexium (today was a day not to take it) and follow it up an hour later with a Pepcid before it went away. WTH????? I never ever had heartburn or gerd before the sleeve. Got the revision because it was supposed to fix it, and here I am, still dealing with it!!!!!!! I'm so over this. I'm not eating anything bad, following my diet to the letter, and I can't catch a break.

Awwwww man. I’ve never responded to your posts about your acid reflux issues, but I’ve read them and I was really, really hoping the revision would immediately bring you some relief. It stinks that it still seems to be a problem, but it’s early, right? Maybe a little time? I hope something works for you!

Hi , I feel really sorry for you .I know how awful GERD is, it drives you nuts - especially at night .I had GERD before I had my sleeve done last year BUT I also had a hernia repaired ,and it was the hernia that gave me GERD .So my sleeve /repair solved that problem .Surely your Doctor must have some idea why this is still happening to you , after the second op ? I'd be so gutted if it was me .All that having to sleep sat up , chugging pills and Nexium all the time , the repetitive swallowing ,and acid coming up your throat - it's no laughing matter .I hope you get it sorted .Please post your progress ,I'd be interested to know x

I don't know. I'm not even fully off the Nexium. I'm on every other day, and already issues are happening. I'll be calling the doctor asap tomorrow.

I'm really upset. I'll be calling the doctor asap tomorrow to see if we can figure out what on earth is going on. I don't know what else to do. I don't have a hernia or anything, gall bladder was removed in 97, never had any reflux or gerd before the sleeve, and this revision was supposed to fix the problem. Not sure what can be done now, but hopefully we can figure something out. I try to stay positive about most things, but this is really too much now.

Thank you. I will definitely be on them about this. Something has to give. There comes a point when looking at the bright side becomes impossible and you just feel defeated. I'm not quite there yet, but I can see myself getting closer. I've had enough.

Ah man. I had GERD before surgery - that's one of the reasons why I had a bypass - because I didn't want to make it worse. But, I'm still on the Omeprazole - 9 months post op. I've tried to get off of it, but I have issues when I do. I reckon I'll probably be taking it forever.

How much did you take before your surgery and how much do you take now?

Oh man. I was on 80mg daily of Nexium with breakthrough gerd nearly every day. Now I'm on 40mg, and if I take it daily, I'm good. If I try to wean off it, I have problems. I guess I won't be getting off it. So so upset :(

I had raging GERD pre-surgery, and while the GERD has pretty much gone post-op, I'm so prone to developing ulcers that I'm still on 40mg of Pantoprazole almost two years out. The plan was for me to wean off Pantoprazole, but when I do, I get a fresh ulcer. I have a pooling of bile in the bottom of what's left of my stomach, which I suspect is at least contributing to it (and I still get "gallstone attacks" despite no longer having a gallbladder). Unfortunately, it's not a sure thing that a bypass will cure GERD, which sucks.

100% feel for you. It's just relentless complications. Hope your surgeon has some idea.

it's not uncommon to have a temporary backlash when you're weaning yourself off of PPI's. Call you clinic for sure, but this may be all it is.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
