Jess:

You have lost a good deal of weight!! Your regular exercise is amazing (I can't seem to get it in, I hope to do better in the Spring). I have been told by trainers, that when you are working out, you are building muscle and losing fat at the same time, but muscle weighs more. I also agree with Annie, I think we may plateau after a big loss, in order for our bodies to figure out where we are. Don't forget you are toning up as well, so you will probably see good results in your inches. When did you get your surgery done???

I had my surgery on 8/13/07 at Grandview..

Annie,

I am so glad about the better service your getting...I think it is important that the doctors keep up with us...and check on us..Especially since a lot of people in Ohio are self pays..Unfortunately our state will still not acknowledge the need for the band..I hope one day they will make it madatory that insurance will pay for anyone who is obese and morbidly obese so they can have the opportunity for fair coverage verses only making it available to the big corporations... Well it's Friday and I have been hitting the exercise hard this week..I also got my zumba DVD's so I did it once I Thursday, but I laughed a lot! Have a great weekend....

Jess,

Good luck with that zumba. What is it like? Back in the day i did jazzercize and that was fun. Does zumba require any extra equipment?

NO, unless you want to use free weights with it, but really it is just latin dancing except it's exercising..THey use the samba, miranga, salsa, steps and moves in the dance steps. IT is really a blast. It's fun but it is great exercise too...We have a great instructor their too!

Hey All:

Had my fill almost two weeks ago, and it is working really well. I have lost the holiday 5 lbs, and I think I am on my way to being off my plateau.

I have been shy about admitting to people that I have had surgery, but I am starting to come out about it now. Guess I didn't want to tell at first incase I couldn't make it work. But so many people are noticing the weight loss, that I feel I need to tell them what I did.

Two ladies last night complemented me on my weight loss, and one (who is older and overweight) asked how I did it. So I told her about my band. She started peppering me with questions (mostly with a negative attitude towards it), her final statement being "Oh, I went on Slimfast and worked out everyday, and lost 50 lbs too. But, then one day, I treated myself to a cheesecake, and it was all over after that.". I finally had to tell her that it may not be for everyone, but it worked for me.

Have any of you guys ever run in to that??

Lisa, I haven't run into that particular problem, but I can believe it. The band must sound pretty strange to someone hearing about it for the first time. I saw an ad on tv and I was sold.

Jess, I guess the storm didn't make it as warned (although we are not out of the woods yet). In Beavercreek we even had a two hour delay for the school and all it did was rain.

Firebolt where are you? Not drowning in girl scout Cookies I hope

Lisa, I have had that happen but I usually reply in an unsarcastic was as I possibly can, "Well I have been there too, then I realized that I was hurting myself when I was reaching for the cheesecake, and the only person I was fooling was myself. I wasted so much time, then I just got heavier, so sometimes you have to realize if you want the weight off you have too make serious decisions, because by the time you decide to really do it you won't be able too." That is when I usually get the look and they have to suddenly say well, you look really good and then they leave..I don't want to be hurtful in any way possible but don't condemn me for going the surgery route when you know what to do and don't do it. That was the biggest crime for myself..I looked at others and was shocked about WLS for quite a while thinking the same thing. But ya know now I also have more weight to loose because of my own denial. Lisa I am so glad you got your fill and it is working for you! You will start kicking butt now! You go girl!

Annie- My school closed, we had rain but we also had ice...So that is the not so great part of living North of I-70. But I have been so busy that I just am trying to keep up..How are you? Yeah, I haven't seen Firebolt in awhile. I hope she is doing okay.

I have an appointment next week with the doc, so I may ask for just one more cc maybe two. I just would like to be a little more restricted. But if she won't I will understand, I know that I have been doing pretty good on weight loss but, my snacking...I have to remember to watch even what I buy for the kids because this week me and the rice krispy treats have had one big battle....I have been doing mostly salads for lunch and going light on dinners...This week I am going to bump up my Protein.. I am going to hit the gym and do zumba, and my favorite place...Walmart to get my Protein shakes...and some nuts.. I know the Protein will make me fill more satisfied, and curve my snacking. Oh but I have some good news, I am 11 lbs away from getting my first 100lbs off!!!! I am really excited about that! Okay well everyone have a great weekend!

Wow Jess, you are really closing in on a big goal!!!Great job!!!

I can't wait for my next fill, my weight loss is stalled again. I have a goal to lose another 2 lbs by valentines day and I'm not sure I'll make it. I'm a slow loser and really need to exercise more regularly. sigh. Not that I hate it or anything. I feel really good after a nice workout. It's just a pain to change and get to the club and get all sweaty etc. (whine, whine)

Hey all:

Do any of you know a nice gym that lets you pay month to month, instead of a contract?? I am looking for something with elipticals.

What types of Snacks do you guys find that helps with the sugar cravings. I know snacking is a bad word, but sometimes the sugar beastie hits and I have a hard time.

Oh, I went through McD's the other day, and they have a new product. They are called snackers. It is a very small flour tortia (sp?), with a piece of grilled chicken and lettuce. It was a perfect size for me (about 3 inches long), cheap, and I didn't feel that I was making a bad choice. Its nice to know that we have some options when we are on the go.

Have a great week! I am working nights, so I am putting a hex on the vending machine!!!

Lisa

Good morning all,

I have been working on my blood pressure and it has been discovered that I have white coat symdrome :huh2:. Everytime I walk into the Doctor's office, my pressure goes up drastically .

My Doctor had me to check my pressure for 10 days- I had good reports, when I walked into the office- it went up :).

She did sign off on my paperwork  and I go to the informational meeting on the Lapband on Wednesday :musical_note: and I have an appointment scheduled with the surgeon the same day.

I have sent all my paperwork in, it is being processed by the insurance company and I should have a date by the beginning of March .

One more step- the two week diet . For the beginning of a life change- I believe I can do it :cake::clap:.

I AM VERY EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Question,

How much weight did you lose pre-surgery and how much weight did you lose within the first month?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
