Hi guys - I'm 3 days post op and doing ok. I don't have any pain so not a need or pain relief and am now managing to sip more Water (I am determined to stay hydrated - it's so very important!). I'm moving around but ensuring that I pace myself. David and Jaz - my thoughts and prayers are with you tomorrow - you will b fine guys. I hope you have found the posts of us who have ad the surgery over the last few days of some comfort to you. Can't wait for you to join us on the other side 🤗😘

My nutritionist advised me to add Protein Powder to everything, including the Water I drink at least in the first month after surgery so I can meet the Protein goal. Just some info for you.

My surgery is tomorrow, I will not know the time until this evening after 6:00 p.m. I do not know why mayo Clinic does this, but they do not let you know what time the surgery is until the night prior to the surgery. They did the same for my husband’s brain surgery couple of years ago.
I still have doubts about this gastric bypass surgery and probably I will until they roll me in, but I think it is a normal reaction to fear. I have so many underlying health conditions that will be resolved with this surgery and I still doubt my decision. My mind will play this game until I wake up from the surgery and I will know that I do not have any other options. 😀

My surgery is Wednesday. I was fine until today. I went for bloodwork on Friday. Saw some results were high. I guess that started giving me doubts. And remember I’m 69 and diabetic. I’m having this to reverse diabetes. I’m keeping all of you in my prayers. Please do the same for me.

I have been on this liquid thing with 4 ounces of Protein and I am not losing nothing this is what's worrying me, everyone has been losing pounds and I ain't losing nothing. Everything I eat is sugar free, all my broths ate home made and my shakes. Maybe I need to call my doc to see what I need to do because it's worrying me about not dropping at least 5 pounds. Please I need something what am I doing wrong?

I am having my surgery the 13th and I am on my all liquid diet I am allowed 3 Protein Drinks a day, 1 egg, 1 yogurt, and unlimited sugar free non carbonated drinks and I am STRUGGLING, it’s so much harder then I expected, also I just went through this one page Carla I have not dropped that much weight either which I’m very surprised about… I am interested in what others say… also how are you guys surviving this no eating thing? I look forward to talking with you all ❤️

I’m having a hard time with the liquid diet too with only 3 shakes and sf Jello, broth, and popsicles. I’m diabetic and my sugar is dropping fast. That’s what makes it hard for me. I’m at a lost what to do with the blood sugar lows bc I was told not to do the glucose tablets. As long as I don’t fall, I’ve gotta do it!

I am sorry that has to be super hard, I am not a diabetic so I don’t know any advice but did you reach out to your Dr. and let him know it’s dropping? I am just struggling with my relationship with food and I definitely have a good addiction so it feels like I’m mourning something, idk if that sounds silly, but I am mourning my relationship with food and it is way harder then I thought

Think to yourself: self you have had more than your share of food/calories. That’s how you got like this! So now self I’ve gotta cutback and skimp on my food by eating low calorie food. Self think of it as a bank account and you’ve been spending too much, so now I’ve gotta cutback and skimp on spending so I can balance my bank account. The bank account is our food.

Hey there. I’m Wed too and I’m nervous too. I had an irregular ekg and had to have a stress test and the cardiologist cleared me. Went for pre op testing and they did another ekg and it was abnormal too so it’s freaking me out. I was cleared and I know the drs know more than me. My husband tells me it’s nerves and anxiety that is keeping me worried. And I have zero doubts that is true. I’ll be a ball or nerves until after surgery.

I am on my 7th day of two week preop diet and I have lost 7 lbs. I’m not sure if that enough or not but I’m doing everything I’m supposed to. Surgery June 12th.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
