Hey, May buddies. I just wanted to say that the pre-op diet is rough. If you can, start reducing your caffeine intake now (if you can still have caffeine pre and post op, lucky). I didn't reduce my caffeine and went cold turkey... BIG mistake. Also, variety in protien drinks is recommended. Im day four and can barely stomach my shakes. Good luck to you all.

I hear ya..I miss my hot cup of coffee in the am. The pre-op is so hard.

I miss my morning coffee now. I can't have caffeine for months after surgery

How are you feeling ajrp001?

Feeling Awesome! its been a week now, walking since day one and started driving last Sunday. Got to work today (I work from home at a desk so that was no issue) manage to loose 8 lbs the first 3 days and only 1 in The last 4 days.

Had some nausea the first day but that went away rather quickly and now just struggling to eat enough Proteins as I really do not like the Protein Shakes.

I've been approved to go home, 30 minutes until husband gets here. Slept great overnight, I was so tired. Hope everyone is recovering well. I feel pretty good but also a bit overwhelmed with my life changed. I think it's the unknown and not knowing how the coming weeks and months will pan out with how much I can est, what can I eat, enough Protein etc. One day at a time I guess .

Hello all, I just had my VGS on the 8th.. spent 2 nights in hospital because of severe pain when I tried to drink anything. I am now on post day 3 and i still can not even take a sip of Water without doubling over in tears.. Has anyone else experienced this? if so how long did it last? what kinds of things did you do to try and get anything down. I don't want to end up in the ER or back in hospital because of dehydration or malnutrition. Other than not being able to drink or eat anything... overall I feel really good and I'm still happy with my choices to have this done. all advice or comments welcome.. Thank you,

Hello and Congrats. I just had my VGS on Monday.. I too do not like Protein Shakes, , My dietitian said I can just drink Protein Water. Premiere Protein makes a tropical punch flavor and peach one.. they are 20 g of protein per bottle. I get mine off Amazon. Both flavors are good, but I prefer the Tropical one. Give those a try if you haven't already.

Bariatric Pal make Protein Shots that are not too bad. I like the cran grape and apple.

I'm surprised they discharged you. I had to make Water goals before they would release me. Try different temperatures of Fluid. I preferred warmer drinks to cold.

Thanks for the reply, I have tried from boiling hot to freezing cold. Water, broth, shakes, tea, no matter what it is the pain is awful.. big gulp to tiny sip all the same outcome, I told the Docs at hospital it was happening, only advice they gave was keep trying, Yes there was a Fluid intake goal that was supposed to be met, but they didn't even ask or keep track of what I was drinking. So far the only thing i was able to ingest was 2 oz of a yogurt that took me about hour to eat. I hope that in a few days it will get batter.

Yikes! Please keep an eye on yourself so you don't get dehydrated. Did they do the swallow test to make sure you weren't leaking from your new stomach?

No, they didn't test for anything. Just told me to keep trying.. hold off on puree diet for 1 more week, just stick to fluids. Today I think i have only gotten down about 12oz of Fluid. i started at 7am and i am still working on the same water bottle. fingers crossed tomorrow will be better,

Interesting. They should have done that. Hopefully things get better for you.

Had surgery yesterday am. Tired all day and lots of gas pains. Didn’t sleep great at night but i think it was more the bed and the interruptions. Hoping to go home today! Feeling better this morning.

Surgery gastric sleeve went so smooth yesterday I went home same day. Minimal pain. Was up and walking like nothing. I will say walking feels great. Not a lot of gas pain either. I was so scared and everything went wonderful. Walk walk walk guys. It makes a difference. Excited for my new journey.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
