69 yrs old and unsure..

I'm 69 and have a BMI of 36. Been gaining weight continuously my adult life. I'm OK'd for sleeve surgery mid september.
Can anyone with a similar age and BMI tell me their experience.
Do you regret making the decision this late in life.
Have the post op diet restrictions felt like a sacrifice.
Did the 30% weight loss offset those the diet changes.
Any insight that would help me make a more informed decision is appreciated.
Thank you

  • I am in my 60s. I just recently had a revision WLS. I will speak mainly about my first WLS since revision was made for other reasons. For the first few months, the post-op diet does feel like a sacrif

I'm not quite your age, but still in the "boomer" set. I can't tell you if you should or shouldn't have bariatric surgery, only you can decide that. I did want to point out that if you approa

Had the surgery on 9/12.
Also had serious doubts having this at 69 yrs. In my case believe it was worthwhile, at least up to this point.
BP med no more. Pre diabetic no more.
I’ve lost 14lbs since surgery and a total of 30 lbs since pre op diet.
My relationship to food has changed, albeit by force. If I can get to my target weight of 185 lbs and stay on it then it’s definitely worth it. Today, I believe it’s achievable.

So glad you went ahead, its like knocking 20 years off your age. I gallop about like a 40 something, I got my life back

Good luck to you! I'm 64, really glad I did the surgery, even considerding I'm a slow loser! A couple years back, I was already fluffy at 185 pounds, had to go on streoids for about 2 years and put on 40 pounds, All my labs went up! HGA1C was so high I was one pound away from being diabetic. I'm now normal blood sugar, cholestrol normal, off blood pressure meds, down 46 pounds. But at 9 months out I still need to lose another 20-30 pounds. I'd like to get down in the low 150s. This is not about looking good in a bikini but getting health again.

I do not regret having the surgery at all. I wish I had done it sooner, but it does have to be the right time to put the time and energy into it. I do worry about the 15-20 pounds they say is normal to regain right after you hit the bottom weight. The hair loss that started at 3-4 months post op is slowing down, good thing becuase I only have so much hair.
