How are you feeling? Nervous ? Excited ? Has your Dr. Given you your pre and post op diet instructions yet ? I am interested if they differ from my own.

Pre Op

1 week liquid diet

Post Op

1 week Clear Liquids

2 week clear liquids only adding Protein Shakes if tolerated

week 3-6 very soft diet

week 7 ease into regular textures

My surgery is on the 20th.

My pre-surgery diet is 2 weeks of 2 Protein Shakes and one low carb, high Protein meal, then the day before surgery and 3 days after is Clear Liquids only. At that point I can start having 3 protein shakes a day for 2 weeks. Then a pureed diet for another 2 weeks. After that it can be more normal textured food as long as it is cut well, not dry and chewed thoroughly. They said the meals should be mostly protein and then non starchy vegetables can be added in,

Ok guys. Back again complaining about the pre-op liquid diet. I have not cheated nor will I and for that I want to pat myself on the back, but I need y'alls tips on these headaches. I am drinking my Protein Shakes and well over 64 oz. of Water a day and the headaches and lightheadedness is wearing me thin and I am sooooo tired. Not sure how the next five days are going to go.

WTG on not cheating. Have you tried spacing out your meals? My preop is 3wks long and the only thing stopping me from killing anyone is having a meal every 2-3hrs.

I drink my first Protein Drink at 6 on the way to work, second drink is around 1230ish or 1, and the last drink is about 630ish. That is my 90 grams of Protein that I am required to drink. Should I probably half the drinks and drink the last half in between those times?

It’s likely you need some more calories. Based on the more popular shakes you are getting 450-480 calories from those three shakes. I’d add one more to the routine. Four would let you drink every four hours for those 12 hours opposed to 5-6. Id also get something like propel that has some electrolytes to supplement. When I’ve done other low calorie/fat diets I’d have Pickle Juice shots to combat headaches.

Received a call from the hospital and moved me up 2 hours, be there at 9am. So glad. The anxiety for waiting won’t be as bad/long. Now it’s just anxiety about having the surgery.

I did a h hernia repair in addition to the g sleeve. My doc just informed. E that the pain and discomfort I am feeling especially after swallowing is as a result of the repair done and that region being swollen.

ANYONE TRIED THIS Premier Protein FLAVOR?

Cafe Latte?
What do you think?
Thanks in advance.

It is one of my favorite flavors so far! I also like the Fairlife chocolate and the Slimfast strawberry. The Premier strawberry is good, but not as good as the Slimfast. The Slimfast only has 20 grams Protein where the Premeir has 30

Hello from NZ!

Just discovered this page - how awesome! I had my bypass on June 2nd. Everything went really smoothly. Unfortunately I seem to have caught the flu from my daughter 2 days ago so I’m feeling a bit miserable 😩.
Wishing all the best to those who are due to have their operations soon ❤️❤️❤️

Hiii,

i just had a revision on June 8 from sleeve to bypass because of severe GERD with surprise hiatial hernia repair. Yesterday was all Clear Liquids. The pains have been crazy and the poop have been liquid. I also just woke up and realized I pooped the bed. ☹️ This is crazy. I think I’ll be buying diapers for a while. Today I start the full liquid diet.

Hi- I'm new to the group. Just joined yesterday. I'm 38 years old and started the process on Jan10th with a starting weight of 305.4. Currently on my 2 week pre-op diet (no fun lol) and am at about 291. I'm having the sleeve done on the 20th. Like most of us, I am extremely worried about the after effects of the surgery and the recovery process. The biggest fear is that I will have gone through all of this and just not see the results. I have had so many appointments, clearances, tests and procedures to make sure that I'm able to have this done and now that that is all over, I'm just scared. Also I'm worried about the COVID test. I really don't want to come up positive and have my whole schedule ruined.

How are you all? How is everyone coping?

Hi there! I'm in the same boat as you, with similar stats as well. Highest weight was around 300, but I'm down to around 276 after over a YEAR of jumping through hoops to get insurance approval (I started the process in February of 2021!). The weight loss I've experienced so far can be attributed to giving up soda (even diet) and alcohol, which I did last summer.

My surgery is June 24th, so today is the first day of my two week liquid diet, and someone at work has already offered me candy...uuuuuuugh. I've only told my closest colleagues about my surgery (I work at a school and today is the last day for students, so my surgery will be over summer break when I don't work anyway) but I might end up telling more of my co-workers at the end-of-year faculty luncheon later today, because some people might wonder why I'm sipping a Protein Shake staring longingly at everyone else's plates.

How has your pre-op diet been going? What is your surgery date?

Edit: Oh derp, I just saw you said your surgery is on the 20th. >_<

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
