Dreaded hair loss - question

It's great to here that your hair is growing again. Mine is in the middle of the loss cycle. There is so much falling onto my clothes. For the first time in my life I have short hair. I think I like it, my husband is less sure . My scalp is so itchy, does anyone know of any product that will help ? TIA

It'll definitely slow down and stop. You'll notice the weird regrowth. I had a short curtain of new hair growing around my hairline that the rest of my hair is now short enough to blend into.

For the itchy scalp, switch to sulfate free Shampoo and try popping an antihistamine. They both help when my scalp is trying to crawl off my head. LilaNicole's apple cider vinegar rinse tip is a good one too.

Um, nothing you put *onto* your scalp will ever stop hair loss because that's not how it works. hair is dead keratin-based stuff, like fingernails. Your scalp skin is an organ with many jobs to do. How on earth would bathing that scalp skin in anything after hair has already extruded from the scalp help it not fall out? It's what is going on at the roots (or what went on there many weeks ago actually) that determines that

I had been so happy not to have lost hair after my surgery but this week it has been falling out in handfuls. I've had this many times in the past after doing VLCDs etc. It's annoying but it'll grow back eventually. I hope that everyone who has a hard time with this (for whatever reason) sees it pass very soon xxx

Who is this in response to? Because Summerseeker was asking about itching scalp relief, not hair-loss prevention.

Bypassingmyphat,

I am just beginning my journey to surgery and have been doing research and learning all I can. My gut feeling on this is to go cut it yourself, take control over the one piece of this journey you can at this point. If it is long enough donate it to a charity that uses the hair to make wigs for cancer patients. That way you can bring some good to someone else.

I am a year and half post sleeve and my Hair loss is getting better. It got very bad for a while and I lost a ton. Enough to make me really sad and upset about it. What did I do to fix it? I got extensions. They were expensive, and require maintenance. I don’t have them for length only volume but you know what? It has boosted my self esteem ten fold. It was worth every penny.

Even with my hair loss, I do not regret surgery and I wouldn’t change a thing. It’s a temporary thing and there are things you can do to improve how you feel about it. Sure, you can’t rub weird creams on your hair or pray the hair in place but you can manage it. I promise. :)

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
