Hello Guys and Gals, I had the VSG last Monday, May 10th, 2021 and my only regret is not having had the surgery so many years ago! I had a Lap Band done in April of 2010 which was a waste of time and energy. I had it removed during this sleeve gastrectomy as well as a hernia repair. There was so much scar tissue that the band actually broke in pieces as the surgeon was extracting it. There is a little piece left behind that will not cause me any problems. The EXTRAORDINARY result of this procedure is that I feel as if they injected me with a heavy dose of B-12 that will not quit! I am up and energetic and cannot get to sleep before midnight when my usual bedtime was at around 8pm! I don't know what to do with myself! I am up cleaning, reducing items that were just stored up in the house, EVERYTHING that I would normally just put off due to fatigue! I am so blessed!

So happy for you! This gives me hope and really motivates. Thank you for posting.

God Bless you dear! You will be just fine. I have lost 7 pounds since the surgery on Monday. I was 224 at surgery on the 10th of May. I am on liquids for THREE MONTHS! My surgeon is AGGRESSIVE! He wants me to get the maximum out this right from the start. I am pressing on. The goal ever before me! You will make it!

I'm one week post-op, too, my RNY with hiatal hernia repair was May 11.

I must say that the first two days after surgery were some of the worst I've ever been through and I've had other surgeries as well, though this is my first abdominal surgery. I really hadn't expected it to be quite so painful and difficult. That said, every day since has seen major improvement. 🙂

I had horrible diarrhea on the day that I switched from clear to full liquids (day 4) so I went back to mostly clear and decided to take it slower.

Question for you... Are you drinking any clear Protein Drinks, if you're not doing the shakes? Propel may have electrolytes but it has NO Protein. The chicken broth you mention does have Protein but it doesn't sound like you're taking in much, you want to reach at least 60g per day. I've been drinking protein Water that I found at Costco: Protein20. Each bottle contains 20g protein. Their are other protein waters on the market, too.

Congrats on your 8 pounds lost since your day of surgery! I weighed in at 246 the morning of, and today I am 244. BUT, I know I gained at least six pounds at the hospital due to all the fluids they pumped into me so I'm telling myself not to be discouraged.

I hope it gets better for you quickly!

Thank you for the encouragement! My program requires we drink 96oz/day for the rest of our lives 😳. During the first two weeks we are supposed to get 48oz of the 96 from electrolytes. Protein Shakes are allowed but they don’t county toward your 96oz/day, so you can imagine how that would just add on to the constant non stop sipping alllll day. It’s miserable so I don’t even bother with anything that doesn’t count toward my 96oz/day. Week 3 is when they want us to start meeting protein goals with soft foods. I do feel better today. I’m so glad every day is getting better for you!

I'm baaaack. Well, sort of and only partially. I had my gastric sleeve and 3" hiatal hernia repair last Wednesday, 5/12 and am starting to feel more alive today. Yesterday was a veritable **** show. I traveled for my surgery and Saturday coming home was a long, horrible day of car rides and changing planes and I was exhausted! Filled with emotional turbulence already, I came home to a sick dog and all that goes with that. But, I allowed myself to just cry, rest, sleep when I felt like it. I carried around a glass of ice Water everywhere I went and sipped on broth and Pedialyte to maintain hydration and electrolytes. I've added in some Protein Shakes today (though not what my body needs just yet) and made a cup of egg drop Soup today also to increase Protein. My belly still feels hard and bloated, but I made myself walk both yesterday and today and IT DOES HELP! I had a lot of pain in my shoulders post surgery that is starting to improve, but still comes on when I burp or need to burp. I understand it is referred pain in the phrenic nerve from the carbon dioxide used to inflate the belly during surgery. Again, the walking seems to help. I won't win any medals with these walks mind you, but was told to get up and move my body to work that gas out of the tissue. No matter how much I think I know, how much I have read, how much you all have taught me, I am still going to have to experience this all myself and learn as I go. Hang tough everybody. We can do this!!

My heart goes out to everyone who has to travel for surgery. I just got lucky and have a bariatric hospital less than 10 minutes from my house. You should feel proud of going through all that travel entails when you’re recovering. I’m very impressed. I hope your dog is okay as well.

Wow! I just checked my program and they include Fluid from all sources. I'm still pre-op and I rarely hit 100oz/day ...and that includes, all forms of fluid. So I can't imagine just getting that in without including Protein Shakes and such. I have been using the Waterlama app to track my fluid intake. and it varies the "hydration" percentage based on the fluid type. (so for example, coffee is only 60%)

Doing okay. Started on very small portions of well-whipped, moist and mushy solid foods. Causing some frothing, meaning I need to slow down!

Good luck tomorrow! I have to be at hospital 5:30 for 7:30 surgery. I also have to drink a Gatorade before 4:30, which means I’ll be up at 3:00 trying to drink. Oh well, it will all be over this time tomorrow

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
