Day surgery and February 2 surgery date!

Hi everyone! I am new here and wanted to see if anyone is having surgery on or near Feb 2?! I am having the gastric sleeve done. Since Covid is still causing hospitals to be overflowing they are doing my surgery as a day surgery. Has anyone had this done as a day surgery? I'm nervous and excited and still in shock that it's happening! I am a little concerned with it being a day surgery but I'm sure they know what they're doing.

Any tips or tricks would be appreciated!

Thanks!

It was rough. Very rough. I am in the regret stage right now for sure. After surgery my blood pressure was very high and I was on telemetry for my heart (I've never had issues prior). I was so so so sick and really struggled. I was discharged home and still sick. Today is day 6 and I am struggling mentally with the food breakup. I want food so badly. I know I will get over it and time will pass and I will be able to eat again, but it is mentally tough. I am feeling a little better, but would really love a burger right now lol time will pass and ill get better. And hopefully in a few months I won't regret this as much as I do now.

Hang in there. It WILL get better. I wasn’t hungry at all after surgery. I doubt you have actual hunger. It’s prob head hunger from old habits. Just remember why you did this. You will be a new you very soon and you have already taken the first step so that’s a step in the right direction! Keep focused. Stay hydrated. Small sips. You got this!!

Thank you sooo much for this. It is amazing how strangers can be so much more supportive than my own family. Seriously much appreciated ❤

I am tired of being dizzy and weak. And that is with 10 hours of sleep.

I am sorry to hear that some of you are having nausea and other issues. What is weird is that I never had any nausea, throwing up or anything. I had my sleeve surgery on 2/2/2021. People keep saying that they can barely get done any of Protein Shakes down.. I have been able to drink the whole 8 ounces from the beginning.. I can eat the puree easily.. and I am still hungry! It is definitely not head hunger as my stomach is actually hungry.. I can feel it. My pre-op diet was 10 days, all Clear Liquids the day before. Nothing to eat/drink the first day until after I had the leak test the next late morning. I am allowed clear liquids, two Protein shales and 4 so-called meals of 1-2 ounces of pureed protein. The only time I feel full is after each Protein Shake. I lost around 5 lbs in the pre-op diet and 6 lbs since the surgery as of yesterday morning.

Has anyone else had these issues?

Thanks!

I feel the same way. No problem with the Protein Shakes but the puréed food fills me up. I have hit my first stall so I went to the gym and walked on the treadmill today. I am getting all of my fluids and Protein. I feel great and the only downside is feeling weak. I know that will pass with time.

Yes, I think. I dont know if I'm hungry but I know I'm not full. I actually just posted a thread on this. I'm in the pureed stage and I domt know how to know when I'm full.

Yesterday I was given the green light on pureed. I started with a v8, which was so yummy.

Today I made soft scrambled eggs and melted cheese. I had one tablespoon as my NUT suggested. And that was it. But I dont know if that was too much or too little.

How do you know when you're full? Or how do you know when to stop since your still hungry?

That is good that the pureed food fills you up. How many ounces at a time and per day are you allowed?

Interesting. I think I have to wait on scrambled eggs until after my next doctor appt. Wow.. one tablesppon of eggs? Eeek..

If I drink my Protein Drink, I can feel that mostly fills me up. But, the 2 ounces of puree definitely doesn't. I guess it is a learning process.

And see I cant hold down the shakes, but pre surgery I could. So all I had for 7 days was protein2o and greek yogurt. I pureed some peaches earlier that I hope to have for dinner, so we'll see how that fills me. I dont think it will though. It's like baby food. But who knows.

I have no limits on how much I can eat, but I get full pretty quick. Like 1/3 a soft boiled egg, 5 small bites of yoghurt. Things just don’t taste that good.

I'm so glad y'all brought this up - how on earth do you figure out what feeling means what?!

I have no idea if I'm full or not. Today I had a Tbs of greek yogurt twice today and I really couldn't tell you if it made me full. I *think* hunger feels like a wave of a stomach cramp (though the signal definitely does not get to my head). I know when I need to slow down on liquids, but it mostly feels like gas followed by a painful burp. I get all sorts of random pains or gurgles or squeezes - often when I'm not drinking or eating anything. But other than hunger, nothing feels like it used to or makes much sense at this point.

I do know anything other than FairLife CorePower is so sweet it makes me want to hurl.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
