I am so done with this liquid diet...

It's been 8 days since my gastric sleeve surgery. I'm so over this liquid diet. I hate the protein shakes. I want something I can chew on. Broth, strained soups. My saving grace has been sugar free popsicles.

  • It won't be forever! You can do it. We all get through it. It's worth it in the end. I'm glad you enjoy your popsicles!

  • I didn’t enjoy the protein shakes either. They were too sweet & grainy but I persevered. It is only two weeks & you can do it too. Mind you I was only drinking one shake & a soup each day.

  • I understand it's just week 2, but my God. lol

Sugar-free popsicles will get you through this. Have you tried sugar-free jello. You can kinda chew on it.

Yep. I'm day 9. Sucks. Thanksgiving will be horrible. I'm determined to do what they tell me though.

I didn’t enjoy the protein shakes either. They were too sweet & grainy but I persevered. It is only two weeks & you can do it too. Mind you I was only drinking one shake & a soup each day. I just wasn’t hungry or interested in food.

And I hate to tell you but you still won’t be chewing for another couple of weeks when you start on soft food. (Purées should be sloppy & completely lump free - nothing to chew.)

This is a good time to think about your eating. How much of this is coming from your head? Why do you want it versus need it? Wanting something to chew is as much a craving (emotionally driven eating) as wanting something sweet or salty.

This isn’t easy but it is so worth it. You can do this.

Idk if it helps but yes popsicles help and a few times I've chewed something and spit it out just to keep my sanity. Terrified to swallow anything else though. You can do it and I agree with checking in with your headspace around food. It's tough. Im 15 days postop and tried sleeping back in my bed tonight. Its a nogo. [emoji36]

It was struggle for me as well and peanut butter on a spoon saved me.I know it wasn't the best thing to eat but I couldn't keep anything else down. I am 6 weeks out and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Hanging in there

I feel this so much! Today is the first day I can have full liquids, been doing clear liquids since the 17th. In all honesty, I haven't felt "hungry" as I used to remember it, I've just been doing broths and jello as "meals" and drinking water in between. Most of my "hunger" seems more like cravings, really...I just want to eat something, even an egg! I've read too many horror stories from people who ate food to early, though, and I don't want that to happen to me. We can get through this, and the other side will be better for us!
