For those who had to quit in order to have surgery: what kind of testing did they do to make sure you quit tobacco?

This is an Interesting question. Makes me wonder the motivation behind it.

I quit smoking 26 years ago, but everyone in my program had to have a nicotine test. It's one of the blood tests they order when they do your labs (usually once you're in the program - and sometimes right before surgery, too)

I figured out the curiosity part. The question gave it away

I didn't have to do one before my RNY but I did before my recent plastic surgery. It was a urine test. Apparently they test everyone. I've never smoked.

I quit smoking in 1999. My surgeon does a nicotine test on everyone. It was part of my blood work. Nicotine really interferes with healing.
