I bought the Geno Pro Protein. I reviewed it with my nutritionist. The scoop is smaller and I mixed it with diet ice tea, coffee, lemonade. It’s helped me. Good Luck and hang in there.

It's a stage. We ALL go through it and it's one of the miracle wonders of the honeymoon period.

So here's your job:

Some how, SOME WAY, get your Protein need met everyday. I frankly don't care how you do it. Drink 2 Protein Drinks. Done. Drink a Protein Drink and have some meat. I don't care. Just MEET YOUR Protein GOAL. The End. Anything else is unnecessary.

Now, do NOT allow the snacking bs to re-enter your life. Quit it. Or I swear you will sabotage your surgery. It has a way of sneaking in when you least want it. Do not allow your food innervation to help rationalize your poor choices. Of COURSE snacky slidery food is easy to eat. It's what we want. It's what appeals. The food companies have spent billions addicting us!!! And making the food extra appealing. So you MUST break up with it. Seriously.

Let me be clear. When I say snacking, I mean fruits and veggies. I’m not downing Cookies and French fries. My meals consist of mainly fruits and veggies most of the time because meat is not appealing. That’s all I was trying to say. No need to use profanity on this thread. Thanks.

Awesome on fruits and veggies. But make the "snacking" = grazing to most of us near vets or vets.

And to us "snacking" = "grazing" is a very very bad thing--on any level. For most of us, the more we eat (the more frequent grazing meals we eat) the hungrier we are and the less actual Protein eating we do.

Making an intentional meal of fruits and veggies is just fine. Unless you are carb intolerant then you might want to lean more on veg and lower the fruit consumption. Many of us gain if we "snack" too much on fruit.

And yeah, I woke up read all the threads about hard times and just got irritated and snapped and Bad Fluffy emerged. So my language got away from me. My apologies.

And for the record? I can eat 2-3X as many veg (cooked or raw) as I can eat dense lean protein. And the carbs and sugars in the veg DO add up. They tell you protein first for a reason. You are trying to absolutely MAXIMIZE the satiety and small portions and low calories. That's part of what the surgery does. Let it do it's job by us following our doctor's rules. Many docs say NO snacking and only 3 meals per day. Mine allowed 3 meals and 1-2 very small mini meals (like an ounce of protein or a 1/2 of cooked veg or 1 cup of salad = 100 cals or less per mini meal.)

I absolutely agree with you on this ! I just like directness though and some may find this too blatant I guess.

I’m a little over one month post op, and I don’t have any interest in food. However, I think my disinterest is in large part to the amount of puking I’ve been doing. I haven’t been able to move from purées yet. I can’t stomach another Protein Shake. I make one each day, and get about an ounce in before I can’t drink anymore. It’s hard to believe my pouch could be so small, but it just is. I get full, very very fast. Within 1-3 bites and I’m done. I’m practicing everything I’ve been told. Putting the fork down, chewing everything until you can’t chew anymore, trying to eat smaller frequent meals... etc. but I just can’t get it in. My NP however told me that if I’m getting in 40g of Protein, she’s ok with that for now. I need to be at 600 cals/day in order to go back to work, and I’m just not there, not even close. I’m hoping that another week of purées and I’ll be ready for soft foods.
Just keep doing the best you can. ❤️

It can be hard. I added in clear Protein like Isopure. Also a Protein Powder favored by vegans. With Fluffy on fruits - I gain if I eat even a serving a day. Steamed shrimp remain my go to protein Mix it up and let yourself get really hungry then protein. Best to you.

If you’re looking for collagen to boost your workout or lead to faster fat loss, don’t believe the hype. Collagen will work just as well as any other Protein -- but you’ll pay a lot more for it (without any added benefit) and need to take more because collagen has a weaker amino acid profile

collagen is a fairly "worthless" Protein source and is incomplete. There is SOME anecdotal evidence that it helps skin, hair and nails.

You CANNOT game the system. LOL. You need as my surgeon said, one of two kinds of protein:

1. Whey Protein (preferably isolate, but it can be a mixture of isolate + concentrate) = most readily absorbable

2. Soy Protein Isolate (which is less bioavailable than whey) = 2nd most readily absorbable

Your RD is misinformed.

Sure, eat Jello, use collagen. Do what makes you "feel good" cuz placebos work too! But the real truth is that you need an assortment of Proteins (most of them "complete" with the 9 essential amino acids=the ones our bodies can't make) each day--especially when we're immediately healing. And collagen consists primarily of 3 amino acids that we ALREADY make in our own bodies. They are not "essential."

No, I don't think she is misinformed, it wouldn't be the only source of Protein as I will be on whey as well and of course ALWAYS better to get protein from animal sources once eating properly again. It is just to add to Water the 1st couple of weeks. https://www.obesityaction.org/community/article-library/protein-supplements-weight-loss-surgery/

Great article, and it addresses specifically what I said. :) https://www.obesityaction.org/community/article-library/protein-supplements-weight-loss-surgery/

But nowhere does it mention the "advantage" of making your own "protein water" from collagen. LOL. Collagen is highly controversial about whether there is any intrinsic value to supplementing with it since our bodies are capable of making the 3 amino acids predominant in collage protein. So IF you're gonna drink clear protein, just go ahead and buy the REAL DEAL stuff that is made from isolate with all the ESSENTIAL amino acids. LOL. It will taste better and be better for you. And go ahead and drink some homemade or minimally processed Bone Broth. Eat a thing or two of Jello. Collagen dilemma solved. If it does help, you've got it covered. But there is no need to "load protein" beyond what your normal protein goal is for the day...

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
