July 2019 Surgery Siblings Post-Op

Have you tried taking your measurements? I happen to have noticed I look better in the mirror and it's only been SINCE that stall began. When I took measurements they were down quite a bit.

I don't pretend to understand the science of it, but I've taken to heart some of the advice in the stall forum which says to stop looking at the scale and just keep on keeping on and eventually things will catch up. If there were a serious problem, your weight loss center would be flagging it for you. If they aren't concerned, neither should we be, I think.

Actually I have not taken my measurements. I have even read posts today where that is discussed and still no 'light bulb' went off..lol.

I do remember 3 week stalls...and that is what I first chalked everything up to plus the 2 quick hospitalizations in week 2 and 3 for IV fluids but now I'm 5 weeks out.

One of our other July siblings MeowAMR posted a reply that resonated with me...what I guess is at the heart of what is nattering away at me is that for 3 full weeks...I have not lost more than 1 lb. For OVER 3 full weeks.

I'm so numbers driven that my head just keeps getting wrapped up in that at some point it is calories in vs. out.

Well, I know the calories 'In' and have rough grasp on calories "out" and the math just does not work out. I'm not saying the net effect of the 2 is enough to signify that I should have lost another 10 lbs...but it is enough to have equaled at least a 4 to 5 lb lost.

I've been thinking of replacing, outside of 2 Protein Shakes to get in my Protein (320 calories together, 60 grams of protein) any other 'food' and go back to sugar free Jello, sugar free Popsicles and bring my calories back to 400 or less. I will say when I was on 400 or less, when I went to do any activity, I felt woozy. Can we get used to it though?

I haven't seen my dr since my post op visit and then him seeing me in hospital a few weeks ago. They are 2 hrs away with traffic so that is why I'm seeking a nutritionist and a therapist closer to home. My car is NOT reliable enough to drive that far and the last time I did, I ended up on the side of one of the busiest rush hour freeways for 3 hours in 105 degree heat and thought I'd pass out.

I think you're on track to losing. I think when most of us say we've lost 29-30lbs we are including our 2wk pre op diet. But since my actual surgery date I've lost 20lbs. 3wk stall is a bummer I remember mentioning it to you and try not to get so hard on yourself when it hits. I know its easier said then done because i even do it to myself somedays. lol

If you're not getting enough carbs you'll get the dizzy woozy feeling. Its like if you don't get enough Protein your body holds on to fat. If you don't get enough carbs your body holds on to fat. Its a lose lose. So make sure you're getting enough carbs because they are what gives your body energy to burn fat. Nobody talked to me about carbs so i was doing everything super low carbs and I was having those dizzy spells to i would get up to walk then take a few steps and get so dizzy i needed to sit down again. Carbs are just too low. Now that I've upped them the past 4 days I havent got the dizzy feeling anymore.

Tomorrow will be 8 weeks since surgery and I have lost 23lbs. This is the lowest I have weighed in 3 years. Weight loss has now slowed significantly to 1-2 lbs a week. Averaging 900 calories a day and my doctor recommends no carbs for 6 months. I can eat anything on Keto diet and have been enjoying some recipes I got off Pinterest. Exercising 3 days a week for 45 minutes each with 20 minutes dedicated to elliptical for cardio . It is hard not to get discouraged but I have focus on goal to get to December where I can introduce healthy carbs and if I can just do 5-8 lbs a month that is another 20 lbs.
PreOp 209
Surgery 205lbs
Now 182
Sample Day
Breakfast
Triple Zero Greek Yogurt or hard boiled egg
Lunch
1/3 cup of shrimp with cucumber salad
dinner
Shredded chicken with refried Beans with salsa
snack
Hummus with veggies
Mangos sliced
Water 48-60 oz(this is a struggle)

Yeah, I’m only at ~16lbs as I start week 5. (7/30 VSG) I’m thinking we are probably all obsessing a bit over the scale. I’m confident it will come off steadily.

Today is the start of week 4 post-op for me, sleeved 7/31. The past week i've bounced around the same 3 pounds since last monday. 220 up to 222, down to 221 up to 223, down to 221, up to 222, down to 220, etc, since surgery i've lost 14lbs. i know the stall will end but it sure is frustrating. i'm meeting Protein goals 90% of the time and fluid goals just as much. i have to remember just breathe, it will come in time and hopefully in 6 mo i'll chuckle at this feeling!

He might mean carbs like bread & Pasta to wait 6months. Refried beans have a ton of carbs. Protein Shakes include carbs too, but they are good carbs unlike breads and pastas. To up my carb intake i am eating refried beans since they have a lot of carbs.

Meow that’s how ours is no simple carbs like breads, rice, Pasta but carbs that come from good Protein sources like Beans etc are okay as long as we keep it lower than 20-30 per day

I may not have staggering weight loss numbers yet but i'm extremely pleased at the changes in my body. I never took before measurements but I can tell daily that my shape is changing and my clothes are literally falling off of me...and i'm now off my meds for cholesterol, blood pressure and arthritis...so i'm extremely happy :D

Thanks for the tip on this. My daughter and I went to a new trail (we try to find parks/walking trails that are NOT all pavement as it feels more like an 'adventure' and not like the dreaded word "exercise". I'm ok with both words but youngest daughter is not in that head space yet and I'll call it whatever so she and I can have this time together and in turn, help each other with our 'self care'.

The first time we walked on an actual trail instead of like Sam's Club etc. due to the heat, we shockingly did 1.5 miles. We were surprised as we've both been very sedentary. Went to a new park/trail yesterday and 25 mins in, my abdomen was cramping badly - thankfully they had on site (VERY HOT) bathroom)...but even after that I felt shaky and just...puny feeling. Very dizzy. Was initially disappointed when I realized while I was sitting in the shade but it still felt like almost 100 degrees, that I was going to have to 'call it' and we had only done .82 miles.

We decided to call it a "win" though as previously we would not have walked to begin with. So .82 miles is better than 0.

I took Friday off and we are looking at another easy hike/walk trail that is supposed to have a butterfly habitat and some other cool stuff (including benches and shade along the way..I'm not too proud to stop if by stopping I can get a quick drink from my water bottle and it enables me to be able to keep going). I'm going to make sure I have a decent amt of Protein and some amt of carbs on board

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
