Shopping, Attitudes, And Weight Loss?

Recommended Posts

I love to shop, especially for myself. With the Holiday shopping season upon us I find myself lacking the enthusiasm to shop for others. Am I being selfish? No matter what immediate family comes first. I don't have kids and I usually buy the kids first, then the adults...and if I am seeing someone I'll pick them up something along the way. By this time last year I was almost finish, and gearing up for Black Friday...this year nothing, and having even thought about going shopping Friday. What is wrong with me? I have purchased me a few new outfits for work and play, because I look ridiculous in size 28 clothes, now. Sharing this with my best friend she let me know it's because I have grown this "all about me" attitude since I lost a few pounds(42 to be exact), and that I am more conceited and self-centered now. Maybe when I was turned away at the club because I no longer looked like my photo..I shouldn't have done a happy dance... I am not even banded yet, (I joined a few exercise programs and changed my eating habits when my ex(with the same insurance as I) was put on a mandatory six month diet). Sorry for getting rather personal, and rambling on.. I guess I need to look pass myself and get on the ball with getting things for others...:phanvan

My guess is, that like many of us, you've spent a LONG time being ALL ABOUT EVERYONE BUT YOU. Now that you want to spend some time ALL ABOUT YOU people are getting upset and seeing you as selfish. Tough Cookies. Yeah, it's the holidays, the time for giving, but that doesn't mean you can't be all about you either. Sheesh, just because you don't have your Christmas shopping done BEFORE THANKSGIVING?!?!

I went through a tough time with my family before they finally admitted that I'm allowed to think about myself, and I'm allowed to say no to them and I am allowed to not put up with their shit when I DO say no to them! It took some time, and we joke about it now, but I think it was hard for them to get used to.

Congrats on your weight loss so far!

First of all--CONGRATULATIONS! You already lost 42 pounds! :clap2:

I agree with Marimaru! You deserve to be as selfish as you want to be. There's still plenty of shopping time left anyway. If and when you feel like you're in the mood to shop, go shop! Or better yet, shop on-line! It might take folks a while to get used to the "new" you--tough luck if they don't like the fact you're focusing on what's good for you! :)

Thank you, you guys.. :whoo:It's a great thing. I have been looking on ebay for some breast cancer charm bracelets for my aunts and my mom. I think I am going to go to Build-A-Bear for the babies. Other than that I have no pleasure to shop for them.

Big grrls aren't allowed to be anything other than goodnatured, jolly, and always concerned for others. Big grrls are expected to listen the problems of others all day long and yet never, ever speak about their own. Big grrls are the Mother Theresas of the work place. It sounds to me that you are claiming for yourself what every normo grrl gets to claim for herself without anyone else questioning it: a certain amount of self interest. Enjoy it! :biggrin1:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
