What to look for in a treadmill?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at buying a moderately priced ($200-300) used treadmill.

I've been checking ebay and craigslist but it occured to me that I really don't know what I'm looking at.

Any brands and/or features to look for or avoid? Thanks

I like the Proform ones. I have an older version of the proform 425. Make sure you get one with a wide tread area. The narrow ones seemed Jerky to me and that made it harder to walk on them. All of the electronic stuff isnt necessary. Put on your MP3 player and off ya go.

Here is the site to check out some proforms

Treadmill Review : Treadmill Reviews

These are 2 of the websites that I looked @. I found them pretty helpful. I wish I would have listened more to the reviews. I bought a NordiacTrack treadmill from Sears and it broke week 1. I was lucky they had a 30 money back guarantee. I wouldn't recommend them b/c Sears and NordiacTrack customer service was horrible.

Make sure that you look up the specifications for any model you are interested in. Many of the home type treadmills have weight limits such as 250lbs max. If you are over that limit, sometimes the tread/motor will not work correctly.

The professional heavier (literally and figuratively) treadmills may not have this problem, but they cost A LOT more:faint:. Pro-Form has been good for me-but I am a little heavier than the limit and I can tell when I have been on it that it is straining. That is why I am working out at the gym currently on the big machines;).

I have a ProForm XP, and I love it. The main things to look for though are the weight limits, make sure it's rated to hold at least what you weigh RIGHT NOW, and the only other thing I'd say is to go to the store, and try them out. If it walks smoothly, you're more likely to use it.

I broke my foot using the treadmill, so I looked for one that had a good, thick tread on it. I had to spend a little more though. But if you can find a used one, it would be more reasonable. I second what someone said about the tread being nice and wide also.

Candle:

Have you considered an eliptical instead of a treadmill? I don't know what it's like where you live or work, but I walk around work and around at home. I like the eliptical for working out on. It's very challenging. I was fortunate because my Sister had one that she was using as a clothes rack, so I borrowed hers. I think that some people sell them on Craigslist used too.

I hope you find something that you enjoy working out on.

Take care.

Sue

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
