Tea and Weight Loss

I drink a lot of tea. Mostly because it started as a habit instilled during early childhood, then teas through pregnancy, for medicinal purposes, hobby, ceremony, fun thirst, celebration, boredom, climate, culture, etc.

I could always find a reason. Here's another one. Weight loss/ maintenance.

I used to be the worlds biggest teadrinker. ATM I can't drink it. With a splash of l/f milk the way I normally have it it tastes too milky. If I try without milk I can taste the bitterness. I'm hoping this doesn't last, if it does some big tea companies could go out of business.

Currently trying to find a suitable low cal substitute that works

Do you drink really strong tea? What about if it was a bit weaker and work back up to your normal strength? Or try different flavours - peppermint, herbals, earl greys, rooibos, twinnings infusions...etc

Got Earl Grey running through my veins in lieu of blood. A huge factor in my weight loss is that I'm perfectly happy with a nice cuppa over food.

No I have it medium. When I have it without milk I make it really weak but I can still taste that bitter aftertaste.

I have been starting to experiment and can just about stomach lemongrass and ginger.

I hate Rooibos and I lived in South Africa for over 20 years which is where the stuff comes from. Also can’t stand peppermint, that’s a bit like drinking toothpaste!

I drink jasmine tea in the morning. Before bed, lavender chamomile with a bit of unsweetened cashew milk. The smell and taste is comforting.

Good strong, black tea and a bit of milk. Preferably Yorkshire Gold tea.

As a Brit, I know it's the answer to all problems! Well, nearly....;-)

I drink 2 or 3 full (64 oz) pots of tea a day. Tea-tea, not fruit tea. I have it sent from Ireland because American tea doesn't taste the same. Ireland has the highest tea consumption per capita in the world, we know our tea. I only use 1 teabag in the whole pot, though, so it's very weak - and a little splash of skim milk. I plan on drinking tea right as soon as I get home from the hospital (I had my mum send e some Decaf of my usual brand) - it's my comfort.

I agree. Different stock of leaves shipped to different parts of the world from different origins. I really love trying different types while traveling!

I love my tea. I grew up on tea. I have a British mother and also lived over there for a few years. Before surgery, I made myself my first and probably last batch of scones - I was remembering Sunday afternoon teas from my youth. I am still drinking tea but switched to herbals and Earl Grey Decaf with stevia for post op. My problem is that sugar was always a big part of my tea....and used to be I was drinking Scottish Breakfast or Irish Breakfast, no milk. So...I'm adjusting. I have a new black tea to try but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

      Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
      Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
      A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.

      I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
      Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

      Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
