Beta Blockers...

Recommended Posts

Feeling so miserable today. I saw my surgeon yesterday and he was unhappy with my progress.

I got sleeved on Oct 31. I have a heart condition - AFib - which I try and manage with Bisoprolol - a beta blocker. I just take them when my heart rate increases to over 140 beats a minute. Side effect is weight gain / slow metabolism... it’s almost impossible to lose weight and recently I gained 2.5lbs because the AFib has been getting more frequent which means more medication to stop it.

Not sure what I can do and feeling hopeless right now.

My cardiologist said that if the first cardio ablation didn’t work (I had it in June) he might need to do another but I really don’t want another surgery yet - the ablation took a lot out of me and made me so tired for about 8 weeks. And my boss isn’t a very tolerant soul.

Just feeling a bit defeated 😕

AFib Bae...

I gain 2.5 lbs if I don't properly evacuate my bowels for just 1 day and I'm not even being comical. Now if you are constantly trending upward and exceed your intial surgery weight then of course this is a real problem.

Please take a strong critical look at your diet and lifestyle to see if there is anything non medication related that's causing gains, and remove it from your life.

(While on Prednisone I am supposed to technically gain weight, everyone does because it makes you want to eat uncontrollably. Nah. Armed with this information I refused to be drawn down by it's tendrils. Some things are automated. Some things you have to work harder against but can still win the war)

Good luck Soldier 💜

Good Luck! Start tracking your intake. Dont just assume the gain is from the meds. You still have to intake more than you expell to gain. The meds arent going to automatically add the extra weight. It may cause you to eat more to cause the gain, or retain water.. but evaluate what is actually causing the gain and address that. Maybe you need to drink more Water to rid your body of more toxins ... Good Luck!

Yes I’m thinking it must be Water retention because I’m not eating more than 800-900 per day. I will up my water and focus more on what I’m eating. It felt like the Surgeon was annoyed with me which made me feel really guilty. He just said beta blockers slow down metabolism. I know the sleeve is a great tool and I haven’t reverted to old habits of immediately turning to food - I went to a restaurant yesterday with friends for the first time and only managed about ¼ of the meal which I was really happy with - and it kept me full for the rest of the evening - didn’t even want a desert ! So, I know it’s the right thing to have. I just have to try and fix the meds. Thank you! 😊

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
