EGS to Gastric sleeve

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had a endoscopic gastric sleeve and the. Ended up getting the transitional gastric sleeve sorry if I’m wording this strangely. I got EGS done about 8 months ago lost 40 and gained back 15 I feel no restriction and I feel like it was a waste of money, might work for some but not for me! I’m not sure if I even qualify for Gastric sleeve as my bmi is under 40 but if anyone has gone through this advice is greatly appreciated!

I can' t answer your question I'm sorry. I almost went for a endoscopic gastric sleeve. I was going to enter a clinical trial to help test its efficacy. I ended up turning the University down when my Insurance approved my appeal for the sleeve. Its truly seems like an Interesting procedure.

I will says if your BMI is 35 or greater an you have a co-morbidity, Insurance may pay for it.

I have posted in another thread in the ESG subforum a link to an article for regarding successful ESG revision to sleeve, but there seems to be some talk about surgeons not wanting to do sleeves due to the suture anchors and they seem to prefer doing bypass revisions for ESG.

On an ESG Facebook group I belong to, there is a surgeon who posts occasionally and it was something he mentioned when someone asked the question. I will see if I can find it.

I am seeing a surgeon in March about the possibility of revision. Need to have gastroscope before the consult to see what options would be available. He is very experienced in bariatric surgery but I would be his first esg revision.

Hope it all goes well for you Mel. Is your preference for a revision to sleeve?

I had the endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty about a year ago and have started regaining weight again and feel very little restriction. Not sure what to do now. Please continue to post updates on this.

Hello I’m sorry to hear this, I will be honest i have zero restriction and haven’t in quite some time, in my opinion Esg only helped for about 6 months or so. I so far have had success with the Keto diet and that is how I’ve been losing weight. I wish you luck and God bless

I have now started Saxenda to try help with the hunger and appetite in conjunction with a dr supervised 800 calorie a day diet for now. I will post an update when I have something to report. Still have appt with surgeon booked in March to discuss what surgical options are available post esg. Mel 😊

Hi all, the Saxenda has been working well. 6.8kg down this month. Gee I wish I had started this when I first had my esg. They would be a great alternative to a gastric sleeve if done together . Restriction plus appetite suppression win : win.

That's great. Have you experienced any nausea or vomiting? Are you at the highest dose yet?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
