Few days before surgery and I'm anxious! Any tips?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Not sure if this is the right place I should be posting this ( if it is, I apologize and feel free to delete this. I'm very new to forums) .

I'm having my surgery in a few days and I'm feeling as anxious as ever. Anxious for the surgery itself but more anxious for the life after. I know this is a voluntary thing and I should deal with the consequences of my choices but I can't help but feel scared and alone. I only told my family as I'm not sure how my friends would take the news but I do plan to tell them after.

I know not a lot of people will understand but I do know that those who have gone through the same journey will.

Just putting this out there.

xx

Everything you are feeling is totally normal! I had my sleeve on 10/10 and I was FREAKING OUT before then! But I just kept thinking - being morbidly obese is killing me. I am literally saving my life by having the surgery! Just relax and trust in your decision! Good luck!!

Don't ever feel obligated to tell anyone you don't want to. This is a medical procedure designed to help save your life with an added bonus of making you look better. The sleeve is the less invasive of the two (RNY/VSG) procedures and should go pretty smooth. VSG was originally performed on the super morbidly obese so they could drop some weight making the RNY surgery safer to perform down the road. When they are in there rooting around, they will check out your gallbladder and possibly remove it if you have stones and see if you need a couple stitches in your diaphragm (hiatal hernia) so either one of those are stand alone surgeries and can be the reason (you tell people) you are going in for surgery. Keep reading other people's experiences on here. That will put your mind at ease and it will seem like a walk in the park come time for surgery. You got this thing. Good luck!

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. I don't have much of a support system with me so this really helps :)

No tears, No fears, you can and will do fine! I started out good, and my minor difficulties will be repaired this week , FYI I was a bypass and my problem related to that, if you are a VSG you won't have it. Most if not all sleevers do wonderfully. But keep in touch, you're now part of Our Family.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
