Not doing great in pre-op diet

I have not been 100% on this pre-op diet at all. I am about 9 days away... I do protein shakes all day long, and then go home and eat a full plate of food. I can't stop. Am I sabotaging this surgery? Is this super dangerous? What are complications that could come from this?

Thanks everyone. I know I have to get my head in the game, but if food was not so hard to master, I wouldn't be on here in the first place. Moving forward, I am going to do exactly as directed. No sli

  • Time to recommit! We are all so lucky to have had/be having this surgery. Pre-op diet can be difficult, but it’s such a small blip when you compare it to the big picture. Think about the end result, t

@Spellbound a lot of us are liquid-only for the week before surgery. That's the boat I'm in and it sounds like where @sleevemebaby7781 hopefully is, now, too. Mine's 3-4 Protein Shakes per day, and I can swap one out with a strained cream Soup, plus unlimited Clear Liquids (broth, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, Protein water). Nothing solid. So, yeah, big salads and bunless burgers sound amazing right now. I would punch someone to have one of those.

Dang. Thx for the education. Apologies if I came across as insensitive.

Currently on day 3 of 14 of liquid pre-op diet. Im full liquids now, 7 days out I switch to clear liquids. I actually always hated protein shakes, but the premier protein caramel and muscle milk protein shakes actually taste okay. In the mornings i mix a half packet of syntrax nectar with my oikos triple zero greek yogurt and it tastes pretty good, gives me 30 grams of protein, and makes me feel full. switching to clear liquids will be hard because the greek yogurt is saving me. I'm not excited about mixing protein powder with water.

I feel like I am rambling and I do not remember what the point of my comment was. oops.

Hi I am in PA too. I just started my 10 day today. ARG...I can do it!!!! Headache, but other than that I am ok.

Folks, does jello count as a clear? Sugar Free with protein added?

My plan did count jello as clear
And you will feel so amazing if you lose a little before surgery. I lost 15 lbs and it made a huge difference!

No protein on a clear liquid per my plan (in any form), but did include SF jello.

That sounds awful. My plan lets you have protein powder mixed with water on clear liquids. I’m not excited about the flavor but least I’ll be able to get my protein in. How does your plan expect you to get 60-80 grams of protein during your clear liquids phase?

It's doable with bone broths.

Yeah, it was only 2 days. You're not really focused on eating right after surgery. I could have cared less. :) Broth and jello and sf popsicles rocked my world.

That makes sense! I have a batch of ginger lemon bone broth I want to make to mix up the flavors with the standard. Are you making your own or just doing pre-packaged. I’m having a rough time figuring out the nutrition facts on the homemade bone broth- I’ve been basing it off the pacific foods bone broth label but would love tips if you have any.

I make my own, chicken soup with bone in chicken breast and every vegetable possible. When the chicken came out, I made chicken salad for family. Soup was strained and veggies served on the side (we've always done this, even prior to wls)
To change up the flavor, change up the veggies

Bone broth can be counted towards liquids, but not toward protein.

Nice! I live alone so i don’t have to worry about cooking for others. I get the bones from the local butcher where the beef is grass fed and then roast and simmer on low in my crockpot for 24 hours. The beef broth I did onions, carrots, garlic, celery, and a bay leaf.

My plan wasn't concerned with me getting protein for the first 2 days. It was concerned with making sure I was getting my fluids and keeping potential nausea away.
