Spellbound reacted to VGSPNW in Any Eviva LSG Patients? I'm scheduled for 10/22I have been scheduled for surgery with dr billings for December 3rd. Now they call and tell me that he is no longer with the company and have me scheduled with dr harris. . . Do you feel comfortable with him? It scares me that they would do this less than a month out.

Hydrate until set meal times arrive. Only eat at set meal times. If is not that time, it's water/tea/ coffee/popsicle time.
Hunger is normal. You can feel it an still survive. Stay focused, you can do this!
Safe Journey

Spellbound got a reaction from Frustr8 in On the Subject of New Clothes....I loved my old clothes. I have been a very stylish person and I have many favorite items. I’m sad that I can’t just rebuy them smaller. Some of my old clothes fit loose and flowed a lot, some of them were flattering to my figure (despite being a person of size). So now I’m struggling with shopping and dressing my new body - smaller chest and oddly pear shaped (was not a pear before).
I agree with @redhead_che when she muses, “how to dress this new body?” I am going to hold out as much as I can, but even my belts are too small now.

Spellbound got a reaction from FluffyChix in Lots of cheeseHi everyone,
I’m 6 weeks out and 19lbs down. I’m not eating much because my tummy can be moody and the idea of eating makes me anxious. I’m trying to build my courage with recipes but I see so much cheese everywhere - and as a patient who had terrible constipation, it makes me weary. So I have two questions:
1) Why is there so much cheese out there? Is it because of macros or nutritional value or taste?
2) What are your non-cheese recipes?
Thanks in advance!

Spellbound reacted to abefroman329 in On the Subject of New Clothes....I’ve been reluctant to buy clothing because I’m sick to death of having to buy smaller ones! But I have been lately because a) I have no winter clothing in my current size and b) I’m about to return to work from parental leave. I find it annoying that I need to try clothing on because I need to be mindful of how it fits (as opposed to before, when clothing was just something that covered my body and needed to be as shapeless as possible). Which means less shopping online and more shopping in stores.

I don't think that 10 pounds in 3 weeks is bad at all. I've lost 1 pound in the last 3 weeks (I'm thinking my issue is a new medicine that I was on), but I would be excited to lose 10 pounds in 3 weeks. Keep your chin up, and keep doing what your doctor advises; the weight will continue to come off.

At first Flinstones were approved, but per my surgeon it has fallen out of favor because there wasn't enough thiamine. FWIW, when they were recommending Flintstones, they had patients take two a day.

In my early weeks, say maybe first 6 weeks, I changed vitamins countless times. I started with the patches, but became sensitive to the adhesive. I tried the chalky chewables, the starburst-like chews, under at least 3 or 4 different brands. I tried them with calcium, without calcium, with iron, without iron. I varied the time of day and considered with food vs without food or what other vitamins to combine them with. They all made me nauseated and a couple even made me dizzy.
I finally settled on gummies. They're not 100% sugar free, but they're only 15 calories, so I decided that the risk of eating sugar vs not getting my vitamins/minerals was something I was willing to take. I've been taking them regularly ever since. No problems. Plus, it kind of feels like a treat.
I don't plan to take them forever. Now that I'm nearly 7 months out from surgery, I think I'll try to go back to the regular One-a Day pills once my gummy stores run out. I've had no trouble with capsules that size, so hopefully it won't be an issue.
I say this so that you know, we all have things we tolerate better than others. And we all have that vitamin that works for us, but not for others. Experiment. Be patient. It will take some trial and error to find what's best for you.

Spellbound got a reaction from FluffyChix in PoopI had a similar situation and it was a week before I went - and it wasn’t very impressive either. My, friend you are normal. I was recommended a stool softener and Miralax, which I took regularly until I started going daily. I once stopped too soon right after moving to a stage 2 diet, and had the worst constipation of life (also, many of the stage two meals and recipes had CHEESE which made things much worse). But I got back on it for another few days and cut out most cheese. I’m still very cautious and only eat cheese if I have beans, or vegetables
What helped me:
1) Eating yogurt regularly (no pun intended)
2) investing in a squatty potty
3) drinking warm beverages
4) Walking before going to the bathroom
I never drank smooth move (my stomach has been really temperamental) but hot tea was great for me.
Good luck.

Spellbound reacted to ElectricBoogaloo in So Dramatic...When I woke up PO, I screamed, "I'M ALIVE?!" to which the entire room started laughing!
Then, the unthinkable happened later on that day....I had a vasovagal syncopal episode on my first walk PO, passed out, fell face first on the tiled floor (nurse present?), unconscious for more than a minute, full code called, concussion...still suffering from that (may not resolve for 3 months), while the surgery itself has been smooth sailing. Go figure!

Spellbound reacted to Lola4rmKona in 18 months post opHey guys, haven't been here for a while and thought I'd check in. Still losing slowly but surely. Ladies, stay away from wine and other new addictions that might take over where food once reigned! Lol. Keep to your goals and do you. Every journey is different so never compare yourself to others. At 18 months postoperative I thought I would have figured it all out by now. That is not the case. I still am mindful of my Protein and calories intake as well as liquids. Still on my Quest for Vitamins that I can settle on (have tried gummies, pills, patches). Still eat with my eyes and have to remind myself food is simply fuel and not a party. Still have to remind myself I have lost the weight and to stop ordering 3 sizes too big because it might not fit. The list goes on but wherever you are in your journey, you are doing great and you will reach your goal. Might not be tomorrow but keep working at it and you will get there. Most importantly, if you have an off day, dont beat yourself up about it and continue forward. For those of you dealing with naysayers of all sorts, I say do you. Your future self will thank you for it. Who I am now am very thankful for the me 18 months ago. My pictures below say it all. I got to a point where I was so miserable, I rarely took pictures and continued eating myself to death because it was my escape. I posted preop pic, one year anniversary, and most recent. Good luck everyone.Take care and Aloha!

Spellbound reacted to Matt Z in One Month Post-Op Advice Please!@LBDucky you've lost 32 lbs already and you are worried that you aren't doing something correctly? Why? You've lost 32 lbs, that's more than a pound a day.
400 calories a day is low. Your body will eventually slow down more and focus on storage over fat removal.
I'm seeing a MASSIVELY important thing missing from this long write up.
Your water intake.
Water is *REQUIRED* for fat processing. If you don't give your body enough water to meet your daily minimum requirements, fat loss *will* suffer. Personally I would increase the protein intake, increase the water intake and reduce the starches and fats.
I don't worry about macros at all.
Never have. Was never advised to.
Even still, you've lost just over a pound a day, that's a great thing, do not overlook the progress because you expected something else. ****NEVER**** compare yourself, your surgery and your loss rates with anyone else. Because absolutely no one is going to lose the same way.
Even if we put identical twins though the same exact surgery on the same day by the same surgeon, they would not experience the same things post op.

Spellbound reacted to greensmoothie in Non Plain Water Drink ChoicesI drank Low Sugar Apple Juice, Gatorade, Crystal Light and chamomile tea. For some unknown reason I had a hard time with plain water after surgery. I’m almost 3 months out now and can drink water just fine. Good luck!

I kind of wish I could eat like people did before factory food took over. Simpler foods with basic ingredients and minimal processing. My wife is super into those processed high volume low calorie things. I can't eat like that, I don't like it and it isn't nutrient dense enough.
At the end of the day it's calories in vs calories out and if you can maintain basic nutrition that is all that matters. I personally like carbs at times, but will often end a snack (say chips) that isn't filling with dense protein, which fills me immediately and prevents overeating. I wish I could eat brown rice, potato or beans, but at current volumes I would either have to eat constantly or starve to death.

This debate was going on 9 years ago when I got my band and it seems it's still going on now.
Obviously there is no 1 size fits all solution but what I find interesting is the major difference between countries. The focus on protein at the exclusion of carbs seems to be THE THING in the USA. In Aus that is not something that is generally promoted. Protein first yes, healthy carbs yes but No carbs no.
