Recommended Posts

One day or should I said 19 hrs. Winds have taken out the other side of town this morning but just came back on. Winds are high gusts and been raining all night and day. But have received no notification from the hospital. I guess no news is good news.

Surgery went Great. Only got 3 holes the in the belly button can’t see it that much. I’m home now resting and walking. Worried about not getting enough fluids because I feel full. I’m afraid to drink to much and throw up. Since I heard my fellow VSleever in the next room loose it and in so much pain. But I’m going to stay strong and keep thinking of the bigger picture. Thanks you guys for checking in with me.

Sorry for not staying in touch. Just so tried all the time but I keep pushing on. Worked a 2 half days, 2 days after surgery. I was so feeling it. I'm still having a hard time getting all the liquids in. Feel so full all the time. Now the burping is sometime I'm not use to. Thinking I should learn how to say the ABC's like the kids do. LOL Wanting to eat something so bad that I tried 2 tablespoon of Greek Yogurt with cinnamon and a pinch of honey. The cold is what hurts but letting it sit in my mouth to warm up helped. SOOO good. Still took me 15 mins to finish that, Takes me forever to finish Protein Shakes also. The scale says I have lost weight but my head and clothes says different. But I have to still keep my head in the game and think of the bigger picture. Target date Dec of 2019 my daughter's wedding. I'm going to find a Hot but Classy dress to wear! LOL

@Liz C

long, but this 6+ year VET/GOAL is worth it - ROFLMAO

not staying in touch"!! 1,000 whips with a wet noodle!! (carbs, carbs eek!!)

Glad you survived florence and surgery went well.

burping LOL - i use to burp so loud my daughter in GA. could here me from Syracuse, NY LOL

I would TRY to stop eating as i was "approaching" being full.(before i burped) Hard to always

tell (judge) when to stop. It's like asking someone on a bus "what stop do i get off for X street".?

He says, "watch me and get off one stop earlier" LOL

Don't push yourself - if you're too tired, (and you can afford time off from work) be easy on

yourself. I read in your other post you are walking 2-3 miles a day!! That's great if you are

feeling ok. But you don't have to walk that much. Walking is great to do any time - take it slow -

if your body says no, no, no, stop i'm hurting - STOP . even though you are walking over

3X period - you sound too tired. don't overdue!! Take a nap, rest - pamper yourself!!

you are worth it. Take yourself off that back burner.

As far as yogurt (even only two tablespoons) you shouldn't experiment before the proper time.

IE before you are supposed to go onto the next phase of eating. pureed', mush, soft, solids.

Ok, end of well meaning lecture;-)

don't concentrate on the # on the scale - you will go crazy. Take your measurements periodically,

and you will see, feel the change in your clothes. Everything takes time

thinking of the bigger picture - great attitude to have!!

I see you were born on Valentines' day!! How sweet is that!! LOL

December 2019 - daughters wedding day - you will look amazing - that dress is a great goal to

look forward too

good luck newbie

kathy

Thank you for your reply, proudgrammy. Love your stats, that gives me hope. You took it off and are keeping it off. Proud of you! So glad I found this site. Only have one person to talk to for advise the others don't understand. Yesterday I just had my first appointment with my NEW family doctor. So grateful to find a doctor who understands this process, knows what to look for and does not think it's the easy way out. Again Thank you!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
