Do you cook in a cast Iron pan? I'd cook everything in one if I were you! :D

https://www.nomeatathlete.com/iron-for-vegetarians/

https://academic.oup.com/ajcn/article/78/3/633S/4690005

Also, can you tolerate pate? Especially if you use livers from Whole Foods? I have an awesome recipe for green peppercorn pate that makes getting down chicken liver flat dreamy! Also have a great recipe for authentic "chopped livah" that's absolutely divine especially with the Wasa rye crackers!! Let me know if you want those recipes btw. I'm sure you know all about adding enough things with zinc, vit c, and carotenoids also helps Iron absorption?

((hugs)) sweetie! Thanks for telling me about the cream of tartar!

I think some of the issue (cuz it hasn't been low until now) is that I'm also having some intestinal disturbance along with the whatever is happening in my gut thing...you know? So I'm sure I'm losing some potassium through um, you know...TMI.

No cast iron skillet for me, I ruined them 😥😥😥 I may try again. And no livers either 😥😥my additional food restrictions... I'm in a hard place for iron, I do what I can, surprisingly all of my labs we great I thought that was weird but I'll take it, iron low as usual.

Ok, lol, cuz you know...I'm nothing if not predictable! :D I'm on the potassium supp, have the carafate liquid on the way, and am back on the horse. I'll continue to focus on potassium-rich foods. :) Have to retake blood test tomorrow--don't know how to study for it so I hope I do well. ;)

I ended up doing about a 16:8 yesterday, and will aim for a 15:9 today, or thereabouts. I will try to do 2 meals + snack (think salad with lots of chard, spinach, kale, fresh beets, mushrooms, purple onion, cucumber, rbp, punkin seeds or pistachios, cannelini Beans, and feta). Think it's a shrimp and chicken kinda day. Maybe just shrimp cuz that's what I feel like. I'll probably eat "gobs" of protein--cuz you know, that's how my broom flies. *snort* About 60-75g ;) - you know, GOBS!

Weight held at 153.8-154.0 so I guess it's gonna stick. Yay me! It really is a new low. I'll take it! I'd love to be at 1st Goal by end of next week, but know better than to put timeframes to my weight loss. They always end in disastrous self-sabotage.

How is everyone doing today?

BTW? 16:8 IF is ridiculously easy now...just sayin'...

Well, I'll continue to post into the ether. :D Cuz you know...that's how I roll--just me and the crickets (and gobs of ketogenic protein=60g ;) and "high fat"=about 35g-ish, hehe) I miss all my IF buds.

I repeat, that my way is the ONLY way -- that works for me. *snick* I do not think anyone should do things this way. Cuz you need to figure out and find your own way, and I honestly believe there are many paths to health. The goal is for each of us to pick one of those paths and follow it--and I will cheerlead the crap out of your journey and prolly be mildly jealous of your gorgeous food! (even though I'm enormously satisfied with my path). :D

Still waiting today to see about my re-test on the potassium. It's kinda a PIA, and unsettling. I don't like things hanging over me to do and the doc is almost 1 1/4-1 1/2 hours away. So it is "a process." LOL. :D

I don't know what time I will end up eating because of this--no idea if I need to be fasting...but if I haven't heard by 10:30am will call them again to find out.

Weight is down. I'm now at 152.6lbs and it feels good. Trying not to get excited about the proximity to 1st Goal. Just trying to keep my head down.

What do you have planned for the weekend? Anything fun?

We're just staying home and catching up with stuff. I was told not to do anything strenuous which is so fu*king ambiguous. LOL. But I'm betting doing the dishes and laundry do not make it onto the strenuous list...just walking in the park at the lake up down hills, or continuing my "jogging" progression, you know--just the fun stuff. All menial schleppy-type jobs are still okey dokey. LOL. *snort*

I'm here! I mean I'm not IF-ing right now, but I'm here!

Glad you're getting the potassium issue fixed @FluffyChix. Any word on the tummy troubles issue?

I just don't have a lot to report. Heading home from my work trip. Just general medium bad level of eating.

This weekend, the highlight will be a date, but then just family obligations, chores, errands.

Meh, I'm boring lately!

Me too. Boring. Even my dogs are sleeping. Husband snoring and it’s 11 am see what happens when you retire. But I love it. Because now I am not eating because I’m bored. 😜

Wooohooooo gotta love retirement!!! :) I'm so dang proud of you girlie!!! Doesn't it feel great to not eat out of boredom??!!!! Wooot!!! Now you can just hang out here in between doing fun stuff with DH!!!! How's your walking going?

Oh and the update on the tum is it is still there. LOL. I'm still eating through the pain, cuz I learned long ago that as a big girl, sometimes you play through the hurt. LOLOL!!! Craptons of meds. And I take the UGI and U/S of ^rt quadrant on Wednesday of this coming week. Then Thursday I see the surgeon and am also trying to get in to see my PCP about the potassium issue on Wednesday but that's prolly not happening. He's a busy dude. LOL.

Aren't ya glad you asked? I hate **** like this...*le sigh*

I am trying a modified fasting period of at least 12 hours but I am still drinking my coffee with Premiere Protein in the mornings, just no actual foods for at least 12 hours. Seems pretty easy so far.

Yay!!! WTG!!!! You know, I don't know if the Protein in the coffee is any big deal. Drs. Johnson (one of the original ADF docs and diets) and Dr. Moseley of the 5:2 diet fame both maintain (through research by Drs. Longo, Mattson, and Varady) that 500 cals (about 25% of normal daily nutrition) will still give you heaps of IF benes without total Water fasting. And Dr. J recommended using a very "lean" low cal Protein Drink to sip on slowly through the day, then just have a small dinner at night.

Congrats girlie!!!! Woooohoooo!!!

Miz60 I’m doing something similar 16 oz Water but adding my collagen peptides to my coffee 40 calories-and 10 grams Protein. Then waiting to do Breakfast at 11ish. When I do this lunch at 2:30 dinner at 6:15 or so. then Water and sf ice pops till bed. I’m not doing Snacks much anymore wich is good. I think my mid day snacking was my downfall

I'm still here too!!! Nothing to report, oh I am up to 157 (cycle soon, expected) still IF-ing except the weekend. The usual... But I think I'm in maintenance now so you won't be hearing weight loss related updates (not that there were many lol) it's just lifestyle for me now.

Congrats! I hear that carries its own set of challenges!!!! Ugh of AF. :( Hope it passes soon!!! You look beautiful and have a lovely shape and %BF.

The Tanita scale at the doc's office said, TILT on the BF % when I got on it, so I still have a some miles to go before I sleep. Which is good to know in and of itself! :) So my plan is to still get down to "normal weight range" and see if my BF content has corrected itself.

Thanks!!! Time to start considering/working on my second year goals... I think I should be fine for maintenance, I'm not going to start adding things into my diet that weren't already there, and IF is a serious tool.

I'm going to continue working on BF and muscle %, toning, flexibility, etc. Just not actively trying to lose more.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
