Hi all I am 5'6" and 285lbs before surgery size 20/2x-3x. My surgery is planned for the third week of July. I start nursing school August 27 and we start clinical 3 weeks after nursing school. i am wondering what size uniform i should order for clinical. so it will be about 9 weeks post op. was thinking of buying larges but i don't want them to be small or to baggy on me. how much weight should i expect to lose in that timeline and what size should i anticipate on getting?

thank you!

Can you wait until closer to the time you will need them? I'm in nursing school too. Was sleeved on May 7. We have our summers off so I don't start back until August 14. All of my school scrubs don't fit now. I'm going to wait until the end of July/beginning of August to buy more.

Just order two sets to begin with unless someone can take them in for you (relatively easy alteration for sewers in the family). Or get two in 1x and 2 in large to start out.

I would buy one size down from your current size. But that's it.

Read through the threads about measurements/sizes. You can't guarantee that you will lose places that change your size a lot. For many people the belly is the last to go. This has been true for me. I have lost the most in my legs. I also lost my "muffin top", so the same size fits loosely.

I think the bigger problem here is that nursing schools still require uniforms 🤔 When I went to nursing school (10 yrs ago) we all just had to wear the same color scrubs.

@Courtney95 I agree ^^^^

I didn't see a big improvement in my waist until almost 80lbs down, and I still only dropped 2-3 pant sizes. However, my outer extremities are a lot smaller. It truly depends on where you carry your weight, and how fast you lose. It's hard to say if you'll be one to lose 30+lbs in that one month. But one thing is for sure, I wouldn't buy a large if you are a 2-3X now. I don't think its realistic to say you will lose more than 35-40 lbs your first month. And that probably won't put you down 3-4 sizes. It would be better that you had something to wear, big or not, than something you couldn't fit into.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

        So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

      I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

        That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

        I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

        Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
