2 days post op and doing good. Minimal pain and gas seems to be passing. I’m still having a hard time getting fluids in...and now my stomach has started spasms when I drink.

Anyone else have spasms? If so how long did they last?

Hi! I had something of the same thing when I got home. It seemed to happen more if I took too big a sip or if the fluids were icy cold. The spasms have improved over the past week(surgery was the 18th). Hope that helps, good luck to you!

Try drinking warm or room temp Water, and not cold. I’m 9 days out and my tummy still makes a lot of Jerky moves. The cold water or frozen stuff at the hospital caused me to throw up every time, took 4 days or so before I could drink without it reeking havoc.

I’m 2 days out and having trouble with liquids too. A lot of gurgling and intermittent nausea for which I am taking zofran. Got sick 3x today, just wrenching a but. With all that I have read, it seems to be a body’s natural course. Day by day.....we’ve gotten this far :-)

Day 5 after surgery. No nausea and down 7 lbs already! Having a really hard time getting enough food though. Only 30-40 grams of Protein each day.

Hi everyone! I just had my sleeve on 7/18/18. Already down 9 pounds!! I still have a hard time when I'm out and about because I see all the food places I used to go and it makes me feel down. That's the hardest part I have noticed about being sleeved so far. Other than that I feel great and am excited for the future.

Hi all. New here. I had my sleeve surgery on the 25th, and so far I’ve lost 16.6 lbs. I’ve been home since I got discharged, diet consisting of sugar free apple or pomegranate juice and a teaspoon of Jello from time to time. I’m so happy about my weight loss so far, but my family is concerned that it’s too much too fast. Should I be concerned? I don’t feel weak or like I’m starving myself.

When your surgeon deems it proper please start your Proteins, at this point fluids are still utmost importance. And I doubt if it will be too fast, my surgeon, an extremely wise one who has been instrumental in training many other surgeons in Midwestern USA, told Tomkitten( my son and heir to my miniscule fortune) and myself he expects I will lose 20 or so pounds on my month long prediet and an additional 30 within my first month- 6 weeks of post- surgery. Wanted to reassure TK so he would not feet so much when I dropped THAT MUCH. If 72 more-or-less years of obesity hadn't done me in , his tender mercies wouldn't either. But after that I would slow down some, stall here and there like we All Do but he expects and is planning for a good happy weight reduction. Guess what, I plan it also.

That’s good to know. I should mention (if it’s significant) that I only lost 3 or 4 pounds on my 10 days pre-op diet. So maybe the extra weight loss was residual from those days? I have my first post-op checkup on Aug 1, and will meet with the nutritionist in addition to the surgeon.

I am 2 day (surgery was on the 25) very sore still hurts when I take big deep breaths. I also have stomach spasms, I am able to keep drinks down had a few spoons of Jello. Just don't want to ache or be sore anymore.

Hi. I think I finally figured how to reply. I had my surgery the same date as you. When you swallow do you have pain right away that goes away? I’m getting that where as soon as something goes in my stomach, it’s an instant pain and then it stops. Almost discourages you from wanting to put anything else in there.

I am 4 days out (surgery 7/24) and have similar pains. After I take a sip, I feel it in my esophagus and chest area - not really stomach?? Weird, right? It goes away immediately. Its almost like something is caught in my chest. Only way I can describe. I did have some spasms as well, but they are definitely due to my incision sites. I figure that we have just put our body through a major surgery, there is definitely going to be some pain, soreness, moments of discomfort. My overall soreness has decreased, so am thinking/hoping that this discomfort decreases over the next few days as well. Day by day.......right now I just concentrating on getting my fluids in!!! Keep me posted as to how you are doing. All the best!

That pain in your chest is normal. I figured it was the gas in your stomach being displaced but I still have it. Now I'm thinking it's just fullness in your belly. It's more often right out of surgery and get less as time goes on but I have read some folks here say they still get it months out. It hurts a bit if I drink or eat too fast or too much but that also happens less now. Maybe it will just become a normal for us or it's our new full meter telling us to stop before we overflow? Congrats you all and good luck with your recovery!!!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
