PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, Lock down the guys/gals rooms by gender!!

The Veteran's Forum is respected (for WL veterans only), is it not? If that's the case, why are the other "only" forums treated any differently?

*cough* Excuse me for pointing this out, but there are more than two genders. By rights, I shouldn't post in either place, but while my gender isn't female, that's where society puts me more often than not. So that's the room where I post.

I want to not have to put "female" or "male" on my profile. It's infuriating. I'm neither. If that means I eventually lose access to The Gals' Room, I can live with that.

Maybe this should be its own topic?

Also, trans people weren't "born" one gender and "became" another. They were always the same gender, no matter what their body might have looked like. The term you want is "assigned," as in "assigned male at birth" or "assigned female at birth." The term you want for someone who has transitioned (whether medically or by clothing choice or any other way) is "male" or "female" or whatever gender they tell you they are.

And while we're here and talking about this, it's never OK to ask someone if they've had surgery as part of their transition. What's in someone's pants is not anyone else's business.

@CrankyMagpie
I don't want this to come out wrong or anything, so understand I have no issues with anyone's preferences at all.
The issue really is that society can't seem to differentiate between "Sex" and "Gender" and Genetic/chromosomal realities. And, the whole shift is going to take time... I mean, we still aren't fully clear of any racial hang ups and that's been something "we" as a sociological whole have been working on for quite a while.

Heck, even what's acceptable within the Gay/Bi/Trans group itself has been changing quite a lot. I was a "Human Sexuality Information and Resource Distribution Manager" for a while, I've been around a LOT of various types of sexuality because of this. I see a lot of preference getting mixed with both Sex and Gender. It's a tough time for everyone really, with the constantly changing environment surrounding human sexuality and the changing (hopefully abolished) gender rolls imposed by society. It's even hard to be a CIS male and be supportive, because just being a white, CIS male makes me the enemy before folks get a chance to understand my perspective, and I'm sure it's the same for the other side of the equation. I've been in far too many situations where, just being who I was born puts me in a position of being hated by the rest of the audience for no reason other than me being how I was born. Hypocritical, of course, but hard to work through to get to the point where those taking offense at my preference, can see that I have no issues with theirs.

Only thing I can do is continue to be accepting and treat everyone equally. Human is Human. What you look like, act like, dress like, sound like, or what you prefer sexually... has zero to do with how you interact with other Humans.

Hopefully it's easier out there for my kids, or when they have kids.

I hope that didn't come out as offensive of insensitive...

I feel like this thread should be shut down because it has basically become a place where transphobic people feel the need to spread their hate.

Silencing oppressors doesn't win the fight.

Not trying to "win" anything. Just pointing out that this is a wls forum where we should be discussing wls not bashing a group of people. I came here to read about wls not transphobic bs. This type of content should be removed.

You can unfollow the post, by clicking the pink icon that sits at the top of the thread, to the right hand side. Also, you only get notifications for a post when you comment... I'd avoid doing that if you don't want to be involved in said posts.

So to be clear- i have a vagina....and i’ve never ever peaked in the guys room because well who cares, it doesn’t apply to me.

But i second this. I’ve heard of sooooo many extremely nosy women in the guy’s room and even starting controversy and i’m just like (not to be rude) but get a life and leave them alone, the guys definitely aren’t peeking in the women’s section.

Another option, would be start a guys only Facebook group. There are plenty of these already for women set up.

This is the thing.... when looking at the "trending topics" on the right side of this.... you don't see that it is a "male" or "female" room.... So sometimes when you get to reading a topic, you simple make a post... it's not a matter of "poking" around. Plus in 2009, when i joined, there was no Male/Female rooms.... we were all one and all gave and took advice for whom ever wished to give it. Some good, some not so good..... but for sure we had a reallyyyyyy great time. Then people started getting their underwear in a knot and drove some of the great people away.

and you are incorrect.... lots of men give advice in the womans room..... at least they use too.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
