Hello again all!

It’s been a few weeks since I posted. Things have gotten somewhat better, as I learn to live with my new stomach. Your encouragement was a great help!

However, I’m now 6 weeks & 1 day out from sleeve surgery & can only fit about 25g (1oz?) (1 Tbs) of food at each meal. Though this does depend on what it is I’m eating (yogurt I can fit in about 60g).

I’ve stopped trying to eat chicken & tuna at this point (as it was sitting really heavy in my stomach) & I am sticking to soft cheese, yogurt, egg etc. for 2 - 3 meals, along with my Protein coffee concoction & a protein shake/soup per day. I plan to try again in a week or two, thinking it might be due to swelling still?

Is it normal to be this far out & not be able to eat anymore than a Tablespoon of food?

I use a bariatric meal timer & chew extremely well.

My plan says I should be ‘aiming for about 1/2 a cup’

Per meal, but that is impossible!

TIA!

25g = 0.9 ounces = 1.8 tablespoons.

This does not sound normal. Might want to explore with your surgeon's office the cause of the problem. In the meantime, you might increase the number of meals per day from say 3 to 5.

I'm in pretty much the same boat. That's all I could eat at 6 weeks and now, at 12 weeks, can still only handle a tiny bit more than that. Maybe 1.5 oz (by weight). At 6 weeks, my surgeon wasn't concerned, just said I was on the slow end of healing, but at my 12 week checkup he did get concerned. I am basically still on mushy foods, can't tolerate solid meat Protein at all, although I can handle fish. Hopefully, you're just a slow healer and it will all resolve itself. Just pad out your day with extra yogurt or protein shakes/water until you can eat more at a sitting. Hope you're doing better soon.

I say I was eating approximately 1/4-1/2 cup at 6 weeks post op. It depended on what it was. Obviously protein rich foods filled me up quicker than others. I agree with James, and you should discuss this with your doctor.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
