It looks like we're not the only ones who think that way. I'm tempted to post my Spinach & Mango salad recipe in that thread but it might be pushing my luck. What do you guys think?

Oooh, sounds nummy! Recipe for the wasabi vinaigrette please!!

fanny i'm one of those cooks who does not "measure" anything, but here is what i make it w/:

wasabi paste - good squeeze

low sodium soy sauce

rice wine vinegar

sesame oil

lemon zest - squeeze of juice

salt/peper

touch of honey

i like the heat side more so than sweet - but you can very easily play around.

Wow, I'll have to look that one up!

I love mine. It's a 2005 Victory Vegas, red (of course), and looks fast even standing still.

*I'M JEALOUS!* Schweet bike!!

PJTP/Rant.

I'm so pissed at DD's dad. He's never sent her anything for her birthday, or Christmas - or anything EVER. It's her birthday month and I've sent an email saying, "hey...where's child support?" Last check was January.

As usual he hasn't received his check yet, so can't send anything...so I asked what he's getting DD for her birthday this year, and does he need suggestions? iTunes cards...any kind of gift certs...etc.

No response. Of course. What an A$$.

I did have VA taking it out of his pay, but he'd quit his jobs once they found him. He begged me 2 years ago to drop the case with the state, and said he'd pay when he could. So, I did...and I have gotten more in the last 2 years than I have since she was born. But still....GGGRRRRRR. I don't need too much, but hell, a $20.00 would do me good right now. Just throw me a bone, dude...it's her 12th BIRTHDAY! It's gonna cost me more and more as she gets older.

How can he not care? Not even a card. How do men do that? I know women walk away too, but how does anyone do it?

How can he know she exists and NOT GIVE A CRAP?

/rant

sorry ya'll...I just had to get it out.

Nah, I get it. I even get the "I don't have it right now" thing about the support (As a man, I couldn't respect another man that took that voiced that excuse, but I understand it). What I don't get is no card (even a freakin' email) or 5 min phone call just to say "You're my daughter, I care."....that I don't get.

DD turns 28 this year and has never met him...and has no desire to do so.

What, how can a sexy lil' thing like you have a 28 yr old? *wiggles eyebrows*

Saturday we went to Kohl's b/c I needed to look for a new swimsuit. Yuck! Well, I found a cute one, skirted tankini, 40% off and it was a size 16!!!! Last year's suit was a 20 or 22, can't remember now. Huge NSV! It's really cute too

Where's the pics?? Lots of bitching about unsightly belly shots, few ladies in swimsuits shots. What are y'all waiting for??

Oh oh... I just challenged one of the doctors on this site: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f197/why-you-shouldnt-eat-salad-93913/ I hope I don't get in trouble but his post made me hopping mad!!

I don't think you're going to get an autographed copy of his book.

Thanks luluc! I'm very much in the 'freeform' cooking field, myself, but it's nice to know the basic ingredients and then take it from there...

LOL! Thanks, Plain! All I can say is I was an early bloomer... I was 1 month shy of my 19th birthday when she was born and I'm 46 now (she turns 28 in August, I turn 47 in September).

I am glad that I don't go to the main page. I don't think I could take belly shots so early in the morning.

Unless they're the right kind of belly shots, of course: Tequila slurped out of the belly button of some hot Adonis.

Well......It is what it is. I personally think people that post stuff like this are very brave. I kinda wish I had taken more "pre" shots, especially shirtless or swimsuit / underwear pics (I only have.....well...none, lol). I have only taken 1 shirtless "during" shot so far when I was about 300 lbs (it wasn't so pretty....I shared w/ Fanny and Shonda). I'm going to try and "man up" during vaca @ the beach this summer and take / post some swimsuit photos.

PS: I've got a couple more I'll share with you in exchange *wink wink*

I vote yes as well. As the democratic process says that 100% of the people voted it is Friday, therefore it is!

Actually, it only has to be 51%! Ain't democracy wonderful? :)

He's just some guy who publishes "magazine" articles who happens to be a doctor. Anyone can publish a magazine article on this site ... including you!

Plus, I happen to think he's a moron. I already questioned some of his advice in another one of his articles. I thought it was particularly bad. The salad advice I can somewhat see because what most in the US call a salad is just iceberg lettuce with a hint of veggies and a sea of high fat dressing. But it doesn't have to be that way and salad compacts really well so it's not like it's going to fill you up for hours in place of better food. I just consider that one mediocre advice vs. horrible advice.

I get it. He wants to pretend the whole relationship didn't happen. Acknowledging the fruit of that relationship makes that impossible. So he'll do the easy thing and pretend he hasn't got a kid.

PJTP

I am wide awake from one of those bad dreams that are so realistic that you don't realize you are sleeping until you wake up freaked out with your heart pounding out of your chest. So bad I could not even get back to sleep.< /p>

It was weird dream time for me...not scary, just weird. In my dreams I am always me - Im never for example a man, or a spider - I am always me. Last night, I was black - which isn't me. That wasn't the point of the dream, it had no bearing on the dream subject, but was a weird aspect. Strange.

Re: bathing suits and belly shots...you'll never see pictures of me either way. Altho' the belly shot as described by Beth has an appeal!

Re: salads...I enjoy them; my doc supports that food choice.

Re: wasabi dressing - sounds wonderful (Im another cooking by creation gal)

Re: cooking. Made a ooey-gooey cake for guests this weekend, but the reviewers were not terribly fond of it. They much prefer the higher more cake like cakes, or cheesecakes...but my rule is I must always try new recipes, so I did. Won't do the ooey-gooey again though.

Lulu - any reason why hubby can't be the tanned body serving you drinks with umbrellas whilst you relax - you both get what you want!

Ciao.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
