1 am post sleeve , strange pain when eating

Recommended Posts

Hi all I'm new here! :) I had my surgery a week ago and overall I think im recovering well, I'm sleeping, walking, and drinking Water. My problem is that when I eat strained Soup, shakes or even water sometimes, it seems to hit the top of my pouch (I imagine) and although it goes down it causes fairly intense pain for a moment followed immediately by this wave of the most intense hunger I've ever felt. I'm hungry all the time anyway but this is the type of hunger that makes you feel you might throw up, if that makes sense. The liquid then comes up a little bit but I don't vomit and it'll go back down again. I haven't felt not hungry once since the op which is getting me down but this pain is making it difficult to even eat the tiny amounts of the soup etc recommended by my dietician in order to curb that hunger. Anyone else experienced this?

Thanks in advance.

I’m having to same feeling, except nothing is coming up. The pain even wakes me up sometimes, but like you said it’s quick but mine come quite frequently.

I’m having the same problem. The nurse I spoke to thinks either the sips are too big.... or acid reflux. I’m on protonix in morning and night and it’s still not helping. For my sips I’ve been using a 1/2 teaspoon measuring spoon to drink from and sometimes it works other time nothing is getting down thier! If you find anything that works do tell!!

Its not hunger it’s acid reflux. Make sure you’re on a proton pump inhibitor. If you’re on one you may need to up the dose.

Really common to have acid during the healing phase and it mimics a gnawing hunger. That timing and reaction are pretty classic for acid.

I’m having this same pain too and I’m asking at my dr appt this week. Sometimes I have without trying to eat or drink anything.

Hi all thanks for the replies. I spoke to my doctor and like Jess said it's acid. He put me on a tablet (not a PPI I can't remember the name I'm sorry) and now it's fine.

Don't be surprised if you find it comes and goes. I'm 7 weeks and my acid is aweful. Now I came from the lap band to the sleeve. I know it's temporary but it is the worse feeling in the world. Im still not comfortable eating meats so I don't.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
